Sorry Mary,

I always forget to check the Kansas forum.  I would be interested in meeting.  I'm in Andover so not terribly far away.  I'm a little limited in what I can do at the moment, but I could use some local support.  Plus I'd really like to meet you!

I'm sorry I didn't see your post sooner.  I've been down for a while but I also live on the east side of town (Andover) and could use some local support.  Maybe we can get together sometime and good luck on your surgery next month.

That sounds great.  Unfortunately, I live too far away.  The Kansas boards are very slow so it might take a little bit to get the information out.  Good luck.

Lots and lots of research.  Myself, I had the VSG (Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy).  It is kind of a cross between the two.  You have the reduction of the stomach but no intestinal rerouting.  I had to go to Edmond, OK to do the surgery and most insurance will not pay for it but it is a safer procedure and is getting great results.  Good luck on whichever you choose.

If I were you, I would contact Solutions For Life.  They should be able to direct to you a doctor that can help you out.

I have recently moved to the Wichita area, and need to find a Dr. that will do my fills.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Tina

I agree.  I've read some books, "A Complete Guide to Obesity Surgery" by Bryan Woodward and "Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies" by Marin Kurian, Barbara Thompson, and Brian Davidson (both of which explain all the various WLS procedures, and "Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding" by Jessie Ahroni.  I check out the OH forums & ask questions there, & recently I asked why people chose the DS over the RNY and got several excellent responses.   Seach for info on the internet; attend informational seminars...and definitely talk to as many people as you can...make an informed decision & choose the WLS that is right for you.  Good luck to you

I talked with my personal Dr.  Then I visited with others that had had both.  I think everyone feels what they had is the best way to go.  that is the way it should be, I think.  I was ready for the RYN and thought that was the best.  Mostly because I went to Junction City and they really were strong for the RYN.  I then visited with my dr. and he suggested i look into the band.  I also did a bunch of reading and visited with a dr. at Tall grass.  I think I felt that the band was the best for me as I didn't want to deal with all the issues that go along with the RYN.  I am happy with my band.  I can eat most of the foods I love, yet small portions are so great.  I feel I don't feel I have no choices.  My wt. loss has been good.  I have not lost much in the past few months but now that I got another fill I know it is coming off.

I would suggest you talk to as many people as you can and to the dr.'s.  Mine gave me good advice and options.  She was great.  Good luck to you in your decision.
