That is great. Sending prayers that her recovery will be without incident. I will be switched on 1/29. Dr. Brent is doing mine also. I had a VBG 20 years ago also. How do I get an angel? I just moved and have no family here. I would feel better knowing someone is checking on my surgery.

ANGEL REPORT:  Nancy L. has been switched!

Nancy L.'s DS surgery started this morning around 8:30 AM with Dr. Brent Steward with Tallgrass Associates in Topeka, KS.

She was told to expect a 2-hour surgery if he was able to do it lap, or a 4-hour surgery if he had to convert to open.  (Nancy had previously reported that she had her stomach stapled 27 years ago, so the possibility of scar tissue was there..)

Nancy's daughter tells me that she had a couple of issues during surgery that required a conversion to open.   She had some extra bleeding and wound up having her spleen removed, in addition to her gall bladder and appendix that was already planned.  Whew!

Her surgery ended about 12:30.  She's there with one of her daughters and mother-in-law by her side.  She's expecting to be out of the hospital in about 4 days.

Please send your positive thoughts and well wishes her way!

Topic: RE: Looking for surgeon in Wichita
I wasn't sure if the new surgeon was practicing yet.  I agree that Solutions for Life would probably charge.  I couldn't even get them to let me go to their support groups without a major hassle.  I did talk to someone who I think works with your surgeon and she was very helpful to me but they just weren't ready at that time (this summer) to do support groups.  Do you know if they offer a support group yet and if so, is it open to anyone?  Just curious...

I am going to start attending the support group in Winfield as soon as I'm well but it would be nice to have one in Wichita also.

Hi... I, too, am having a DS with Dr. Brent Steward.  I do not know if the rest perform the DS or not.  Seems like the few DS patients I am aware of have had Dr. Steward.

SOrry, not much help.

Hi, Kim.
I am happy to send a PM reminder. I think our first support group went well. Mostly, we spent time just getting acquainted, sharing our needs and expectations for group. There were 5 of us, including a couple who drove quite a distance. What a cute husband and wife team. He is very supportive of his wife, and that was very nice to see and hear. We went for an hour and a half, but agreed that we should keep group at one hour and then if anyone needed extra time, I would be happy to stay. I just don't want people to decide they can't afford the time because we take too long. All in all, I was pleased.
I do pray you're getting better. Bless your heart. I will continue to pray.
Blessings,
Mary

Thank you again for your prayers.  Yes a PM reminder would be helpful.  I hope it goes well today.

Oh, Kim. I'm sure sorry to hear that you are in the hospital again. Bless your heart. I'll be praying for you.
The next support group meeting will be the 2nd Saturday of January (the 2nd Sat. of each month). If you'd like, I can send a PM reminder about a week before. Would that be helpful?
December is NOT a good month to start a support group, as it's such a busy month for people, but I felt we should jump right in. There may be only 3 of us tomorrow, but we'll do some good brainstorming of ideas, topics, anticipating the needs of our group members, etc.
You just concentrate on getting better.
Blessings,
Mary

Mary,

I am in the hospital again (since Tues).  I didn't get my computer brought up to me until tonight so I'm sorry about this last minute notice that I cannot attend.  I would like to know when the next one will be though.

I am not interested in a structured "meeting" per-se but would be up for a casual get together every once and while.
