Topic: RE: Am I a lost cause?
I'm sure sorry to hear of your struggles, but most of us have been there. WLS gives you a chance, at least, to get the weight off for good.
I had VSG surgery with Dr. Greg Walton, Weight Wise, Edmond, Oklahoma, and, at the time, it cost $9,995. I think it's about $12,500 now. The price covers everything, plus a year of follow-up visits. He, the staff, and the hospital are top notch.
I did not have insurance, either. My little church of 250 (including children) raised nearly half the amount. I couldn't believe it! I was in such a bad physical state, though, that I was in the hospital. They knew something had to be done and quickly.
Anyway, Dr. Walton is a doctor listed with Care Credit. His staff will even put the paperwork through for you, after you fill it out. It's very reasonable, and if your credit is less than perfect, you have a good chance with them. Google Care Credit, to read all about it. I think you can stretch the payments out something like 7 years, to get affordable payments. You can always pay more per month, though. :)
I know things seem impossible right now, but I'm here to testify that it can work out. If you need a support group to attend, consider mine. :) We meet the 2nd Saturday of each month, from 2-3 p.m., at the E-Free Church library, 3725 E. 9th Ave., Winfield, KS.
Keep us posted on how things work out.
Blessings,
Mary

Topic: Am I a lost cause?
I have been losing weight for the last 2 and a half years. I lost 70 lbs total through diet and exercise. I thought I had this under control finally, but I was wrong. During the last 3-4 months I've already gained back 25 lbs and I feel powerless to stop myself. I'm disgusted with everything. I've decided that weight loss surgery is the final step. I've thought about it over the years off and on and decided I would give it another real effort of doing it on my own before doing something so drastic.
So now here I am. I feel it's time to really pursue the surgery angle. The problem is, my insurance will not cover any type of weight loss surgery. They totally exclude it. I don't have the money to self pay without getting it financed but I do not have the best credit and the few places I've already applied at turned me down. Now I'm feeling depressed like it's hopeless. I keep crying because I am so miserable.
Is there any other options for me? Are there financing companies that will take a chance on a working class family with less than perfect credit? I work, my husband works. We can pay the money back but need help getting started. Anyone been in this situation?

Topic: RE: Tallgrass surgeons & DS
I'm not sure which ones perform the DS but I do know you can choose your surgeon. I am having a RNY hopefully in Oct. and I chose Dr. Dunshee. I felt he had the experience I needed to feel safe. However, every surgeon there comes highly recommended. Ask Becky as to the experience of each one.

I was beginning to wonder about SE KS, but it seems things have slowed down. We had rain and believe it or not cool weather for our county fair last week. I believe it was commented that we hadn't seen rain and cool weather during our fair (Bourbon Co) for approximately 15 years or so. I know you in SC KS got more than we did here. Makes you wonder what winter has in store.....

I don't know what kind of surgery you are considering...but dr hornbostel of sedalia used to be one of the lowest priced around, plus and most importantly he is one of, if not THE best around here!!! hugs and good luck, it took me a long time to get the surgery but i will say it has all been so worth it in the end. Topic: gary baker plastic surgeon ?????overland park???
ok I was asking for help in finding a plastic surgeon who accpted medicare...thank you jan and poohbear...i clicked on the link poohbear sent and found one in overland park (where i live) LISTN to this story!!! I called his office (gary baker) HE personally answered the phone...i immedietly hung up...i thought i accidently called his home phone lol...i looked on the internet for an office number found it, called back, once again he answered personally, so i bit the bullet explained my situation, medicare only, and my needed hysterectomy, ovary removal and hoping for the panni removal same time. all that hanging flesh on my upper thighs can't be good for healing an open wound, my ovarin cyst is 11 cm long and fluid filled so it is too big to remove it laproscopically so open surgery it is....anywho...he made me an appt. for th following day, i got there this morning, he had no staff... he took my history, he gave me my paperwork, he copied my insurance card...there was literally no one else in the whole building...I am wondering if i should be worried or what?!! this guy is certified in 4 differn't areas 2 of them in plastics and reconstructive. EXCELLENT credentials, but he basically approved me if you will on the spot! no exam, he said he to have my ob/gyn surgery scheduler call him and they would hammer out the details. I am kinda freaking out, happy because i need the panni done so bad, it is AWFUL I have lost over 150 lb.s and would lose more if i felt better ad able to excercize more i'm sure. my hubby said he thinks the economy is so bad maybe the plastic surgeons are hurting for patients. i'm thinking maybe he's a bad doc or sommething ....i guess since it all fell in my lap i shouldn't second guess?? what do you all think...swanky office and all but all staff on vacay? weird or what....nice doc tho btw

Yikes. I went with Dr. Walton, Weight Wise, Edmond, OK, for the VSG and paid $9,995 self-pay through Care Credit. That was for everything, including a year of follow-up visits. He's awesome.
I wonder what they'd say if you told them you might have to go somewhere else.
Blessings,
Mary

Topic: Self Pay Blues in Kansas
The WLS clinic I have been working with for several months had been telling me 13,000 for the surgery- I jumped through the hoops and got an initial appt. set. Now they are asking me to pre-pay 10,000 in addition for pre-op testing. total of 23,000!
What have other selfpayers paid?
