Topic: RE: Support Group to Meet 8/8/09
Are you aware of any support groups in the Southwest part of our state? I have just returned home from Lap RNY and would like to get involved in a support group. Thanks..
Topic: RE: Psych Eval Question for Tallgrass Patients
I was a patient at Tallgrass. My eval was less then 30 mins. Very quick and easy. Just basic questions about my past mental health issues and what type of support I had at home. That is odd that it was so long!
Topic: RE: question about insurance
I also have BCBCKS and they will not touch anything to do with weight loss. I'm hoping someday they will loosen up on this. The money they could save on with just the payout on prescription meds alone would be enormous. Maybe they don't have the faith that this surgery works.
Thx, Bettye
Topic: question about insurance
Hello. Has anyone dealt with BCBS of KS. My insurance policy says that they don't cover anything having to do with bariatric surgery, dr. visits about weight loss, etc. Just wondering if anyone has fought and won this problem? thx, gin
Topic: RE: Am I a lost cause?
Insurance regularly denies coverage. My insurance policy totally excluded weight loss surgery of any kind, but I appealed with letters from my employer (because they provide the insurance benefit) and from my doctors. Just don't take no for an answer.
Don't give up.
In the meantime, I'd suggest that you spend some time on the DS surgical forum. This surgery has the best stats for losing and maintaining weight loss. I'd lost 100+ pounds more than once in my life, but I could not seem to keep it off. My surgeon is Dr. Bernita Berntsen from Topeka. (Tallgrass Surgical) She is an amazing surgeon and she was the one who first told me of this procedure.

Hi, Heather.
I, too, had the Sleeve (VSG) in Edmond, Oklahoma, but I wanted to welcome you to the Kansas board. Not that I'm the official Welcome Wagon, but you know... :)
Congratulations on pursuing the surgery that's right for you.
Blessings,
Mary

Sorry, I can't help you. I went to Oklahoma to get my Gastic Sleeve done a year ago. Just research as much as you can and you will make the right decision for you.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Topic: Hey all!
Hey folks! I'm trying to get more into the message board aspect of OH :)
My name is Heather. I actually live in Blue Springs, MO, but I've chosen to go through Shawnee Mission Med Ctr. for surgery. I went to my informational meeting last night, and now my head is spinning! I went in feeling pretty set on Lap B and, but now I'm actually throwing RNY back into the ring for more thought and contemplation.
For those of you who went to SMMC (or are going there now), what did you like about it? Dislike? Which surgeon did you use? The surgeon last night was Dr. Kowalski, who I really liked. And.... insanely enough... he's from Philly... the very clinic where one of my good friends is undergoing her RNY *right now*. Small world :) She said that his rep there is wonderful.
