Topic: RE: Psych Eval Question for Tallgrass Patients
Hello Bettye- I plan on going to Tallgrass for GB and have just started the process.  Do you mind sharing who did your eval so I don't end up in a 6 hour long eval? LOL...  I am going to the Seminar this coming Sat.  I met with the Dietician and she was very nice.  Hoping to gather as much information as possible before the Seminar.

It;s still so funny that even after almost 6 years I am shocked if someone goes elsewhere after I tell them about Tallgrass.  I am so happy eith having my beginning years there and although my favorite surgeon has moved, it seemd thee are several other liked very well.  It is so frustrating because some of these docs just seem so intimidating!!

I just saw this post and am curious if you are in Topeka, why not go to Tallgrass right here in town? We have a great program right here.

Bettye...

I also went to Tallgrass. Mine took about an hour too.  We did an interview for about a half hour then I did the 700 or more questions on the computer.  He got the printout immediately and told me I met the qualifications..  And that he would send the report to Tallgrass.

Have you had your surgery done yet?  Any perspective, pointers, suggestions about the whole experience?'

Topic: Transition Clothing Available...Olathe, KS

For the ladies who might be in transition and in need of clothing (or you have friends who are just starting out who might need some clothing), I am going to have a garage sale.  My garage sale will be Friday, September 11 and Saturday, September 12. I have TONS of work clothes, casual, trendy. Dresses, suits, jeans, tshirts, jog outfits, skirts, shirts, shorts, crops, etc. When I say I had a lot of clothes, I can’t describe it all I can say is I had a his & hers closet full of clothes.

I have new clothes never worn, some only worn once, and others worn a couple of times. I have 2x-4x’s, 34, 32, 30, 28, 26’s and a few other smaller sizes.

Email me and I'll send my address.

Topic: RE: question about insurance
Thanks for your reply.  I am so interested in your description of Dr. K as a possibility in Lenexa.  I've really wondered about her.  I have read  her reviews here on ObesityHelp, and read her own web page.  The reviews I recall being quite good, but I really wondered why none of them were from DSers. Also, I was so disturbed that she even listed BPD (the old kind, without DS) as a possibility.  If I recall, she said she had done about 25 BPDs and 25 DSs (but those web stats could be a few years old).  Most of the people on the DS message board who have had it say that it is just a myth that DSers have a stench about their whole body. Many also report that the flatulence is controllable by their dietary choices, for the most part.  The most common cause for the flatulence in DSers is usually white flour, sugars, and sugar alcohols.  If they stick to protein and fat, most do not find it too bad.  Then, they often just have, say, a cookie from work in the last hour, so gas won't hit until they've left work, or they wait to have starchy food until alone at home in the evening.  That's what I seem to see them saying on the DS board.  Have you lurked much on the DS message board?  Of course, I am still thinking about which WLS I can best live with, and I am kind of grieving, in that they all can have bad things result.
Oh, I wanted to also bring up more about Dr. K's website.  I read these a few weeks ago, I think it was.  I read the 34-pg DS guide she had in .pdf, and it seemed like mostly just repeating RNY dietary habit advice.  Like your statement in the post above, I don't mean to be offensive about other people's choices, either.  I am just concerned.  I hope she is better than my fear of her.
I am so impressed that she met with you for so long!!!  That counts for a lot with me.
I do know I have a beef to pick w/ Tallgrass's bariatric web site, too, in that it basically just has a little ad for lap-band and it's financing, then a little about each surgeon.  Nothing substantive about DS or RNY.  And yet, I do know that at the seminar, the different options are presented pretty equally, and I do read the posts of a woman who went to Dr. Berntsen at Tallgrass intending on getting the RNY, and Dr. B suggested the DS for her, and she (the patient) has been very pleased with the DS post-op.

Edited to add: I meant to put in but forgot:  I wonder if she (Dr.K) was mixing together the old BPD and current DSers in what she was warning you about as the terrible things that could come of the DS -- I think those were more prevalent with the old BPD, which is why it isn't normally done anymore, when the modern DS is so much better.

I also went to Tallgrass.  I think it depends on who you go to for the eval.  Some put you through more than others.  Mine took about an hour.  We did an interview for about a half hour then it did the 700 or more questions on the computer.  He got the printout immediately and told me I wasn't nuts. LOL and that he would send the report to Tallgrass.
