I work for Weight Loss Surgical Center, and even though we specialize in LAP-BAND Surgeries, we allow anyone to attend, even if they have had other procedures or were banded by other surgeons. We realize that everyone needs support and may have something helpful to contribute, even if the paths to healthy weight are a little different.
In the Kansas City area, we have two clinics that have support groups here is information on each:
Overland Park LAP-BAND Support Group, next meeting November 21 at 11 a.m. at 8101 W 135th St.
Independence LAP-BAND Support Group, next meeting December 2 at 4:30 p.m. at our clinic inside the southeast corner of Independence Center mall.

Topic: Weight Loss Surgical Center Signs Contract for New Hospital
| OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Weight Loss Surgical Center announced today that it will build a new specialty hospital to expand its services to more patients seeking the adjustable gastric band procedure for weight loss. Weight Loss Surgical Center currently operates an ambulatory surgery center at 8101 W 135th Street in Overland Park. The new facility, to be located at 12850 Metcalf Avenue and named Blue Valley Hospital, will be licensed as an acute care hospital. “Every month, we see more than 100 new patients who are interested in losing weight with adjustable gastric bands," said Douglas Palzer, CEO and founder of Weight Loss Surgical Center. “We cannot take some of those patients to surgery right now, because their insurance plans require the surgery to be performed in a hospital instead of an ambulatory surgery center. Our move to a hospital facility will help us serve the increasing demand for this life-changing procedure." Blue Valley Hospital will feature state-of-the-art operating rooms designed for the needs and safety of morbidly obese patients. The facility also will house a Weight Loss Surgical Center clinic on site for new patient consultations and adjustable gastric band post-op care. The new hospital is scheduled to open in the summer of 2010. Weight Loss Surgical Center performs hundreds of LAP-BAND® and REALIZE™ Band surgeries each year at its ambulatory surgery center in Overland Park. If you are in driving distance of Winfield (south central kS), the next Winfield L.I.G.H.T. (Losing Inches, Getting Healthy Together) Support Group will meet one week from tomorrow, Saturday, November 14th, from 2-3 p.m., at The E-Free Church library, 3725 East 9th Avenue, Winfield.
Our topic theme is Thanksgiving. One attendee will win a free gift. We'll have fun, and you will leave with some good handouts.

I am completely off topic but i am trying to find a support group in wichita perferably during the day you can send me an e-mail at [email protected]. I did my RNY in Topeka and I don't want to drive there to just meet and talk about problems.

BC/BS of KS and had my surgery on 7-20-09. About a year and a hal*****here was a large article in the KS Star about BC/BS re-considering their views on WLS. I work in a doctors office and the first of 2008 we started have patients with state BC/BS coverage coming in for referrals to surgeons as they had just learned their insurance now covered WLS.
In January of 2009 I called my insurance carrier, again BC/BS KS and was told that my policy not covered WLS. What a surprise! I was fortunate and had my Lap-Band on 7-20-09. So, BC/BS of KS has been slow to come around but they are improving.
Talk to your HR people, call BC/BS and ask how to file a complaint/appeal, whatever you can do.

Topic: Health Tracker Update: Meals and Reports
Last week we released two major updates. First was the public release of OH Groups where any ObesityHelp member can now create their own Group. Second was the addition of Activity Tracking to Health Tracker, which provides a robust and easy to use tool to track and monitor your exercise and activity. Today we have added My Meals and an Activity vs. Weight Loss Report to Health Tracker.
My MealsMy Meals allows you to group and store multiple food and beverage items as a custom meal that can be used over and over again. If you have meals that you eat on a regular basis, you will no longer need to log each food item individually. |
To access My Meals, go to your Health Tracker in My OH and click on the Nutrition tab. You will see My Meals listed under Nutrition. |
Creating a new meal works similar to your Food Log. You can search for food items on the right and add the foods to the meal on the left. A Calorie Breakdown chart and Nutrient Summary Label are also available for each meal. |
Once a meal is created you can add that meal to your Food Log from My Meals by clicking "i had this" or you can search for the meal from your Food Log. |
When searching for a meal to add to your Food Log, all meals will be returned when "My Foods" is selected in search. So, to "drill down" on meals that you have created, select to only show "My Foods." When a new meal is created it may require up to 30 minutes for that meal to be indexed and become searchable. |
Activity vs. Weight Loss ReportAdding to the Macronutrient and Export Reports previously available, there is now an Activity vs. Weight Loss Report. This report will allow to compare Average Time in Activity vs Weight over time, providing you with further insight into what impact physical activity as on weight loss and weight loss maintenance. In Health Tracker, click Reports and then select Activity vs. Weight Loss. |

I am a recent (9/15) sleev-er , my surgeon is in Detroit.
Does anyone know of a support group within an hour or so from Kansas City, that accepts other surgeons' patients? I REALLY need the support,......struggling.,

I had the DS and I know he has at least one other patient that had RNY. I know he is aware of my needs for lab tests and making sure my vitimin levels are all good.
