I had Dr Lawrence at KU remove a lesion from my face (with insurance)...he said he would be able to do a tummy tuck down the road, but truthfully, I didn't pin him down about the insurance. I did run into the same issue with getting the lesion removed...the first couple of plastic surgeons that I tried no longer took insurance...period. Debbie

You may want to go on the main forum to ask. even though they are not mainly from Kansas, they really seem to know their insurance. Most have been through it all already and maybe able to give you info. The KS forum oes not seem to be busy at all. Good luck to you!!!!!

Has anyone been approved for either RNY or LapBand by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City? Their medical policy seems super exclusionary compared to BCBS in other states. I was approved twice for a LapBand by BCBS in Wisconsin but my employer switched our plan to Kansas City and now it appears I cannot qualify any longer. Suggestions? Gene

I've called a number of doctors on the list for UHC. Dr. Hall, Dr. Cannova, Dr. Quinn. I know Monarch Plastic Surgery said they wouldn't take insurance for a tummy tuck regardless of the reason. I have an appointment on Friday for a consult with Dr. Hynes at St. Joseph Med Center. I didn't ask about insurance yet. I thought I would explain my situation when I went in. I guess it can't hurt since the consult is free. Everyone else I have called said the same thing as Monarch. They won't submit to insurance for a tummy tuck.

Topic: RE: Having a Hard time deciding!
That IS a tough thing to answer because its so personal for everyone! We all have different habits, different reasons for wanting to lose weight, and different lifestyle changes that we're willing to accept or not accept. I can tell you that our stats are about the same. I'm 5'6" and weighed 266 preop. I got the Lapband and lost 100 lbs. in a little less than 14 months. I went from a size 22W to a size 6-8 in most jeans. I know you've probably already researched it to death, but try to just sit and consider what it is you want to get out of your surgery. Do you want to lose weight very quickly? Do you have good skin that can handle rapid weight loss? Then maybe RNY is for you. Are you good about getting routine followup and patient about slow and steady weight loss? If so, the band may be for you because it requires diligent aftercare and takes longer to lose weight. You know, just ask yourself some questions about what your ultimate goals are in the long run, and what your personality can handle in the short run. You'll arrive at an answer that is just right for you! Best of luck! ~Tiffany

Well...that is a tough one. Everyone is different. I had RNY, so of course I am an advocate. I needed the DRASTIC-ness (is that a word?) of it, and also like the PERMANENCY of it. I think you lose more weight too, but just my opinion. I am 5'9 and went from 325 to 169...and even had my first baby! Valena

Topic: RE: Financing???
Citibank has a finical side just for medical finance. I will look around for the info and get it to you. I know that they do this due to an expense from the dentist. They gave us the information for them. I will find it tonight. It is easy to apply but I don't know how they rate people. I don't know if I would really look at Mexico for an option. Even though they state they have trained physicians in the U.S. Who is going to take care of your problems when you have one? I have learned from past experiences in life... you never know what comes your way. You don't want to be one of those people who have a procedure and then can't find anyone to fix a screw up or when something goes wrong. This procedure should not be taken lightly on any means. You need to understand that it could be a matter of life or death. Sure would not want to see you on the bad end of a "so called" good deal. KD
