Topic: Shopping around
Is it wise to shop around for lap band surgery prices? I have insurance but have already figured out that wls is excluded from my policy. I have found self-pay prices that range from $13,500 to $18K here in the KC area. There is one in OK that charges $11 and one in Denver that charges $10K. How could there be so much differences in prices?? I have also noticed that the one in Denver only has 3 months worth of follow-up treatment where as all the others have 1 year worth of treatments. I would appreciate knowing what everyone else thinks about this...

Are your meetings open to someone who is still researching the surgeries? I am interested in attending, but have not set a surgery date yet.

The informational meeting is at 10. I think the nutritional/support meeting is the one at noon...

Mark,
WOW!!!! congratulations to you and your wife!!!! Now you have me wanting March to get here that much faster About Dream I emailed her before Christmas and still have not gotten a response I just pray that everything is OK with her and that she will one day show her smiling face on the boards again. I check her profile about once a month to see if anything is on it but alas nothing. Well keep me updated on you and your wife's progress.

When you say Lenexa.. what hospital are you talking about?
My doc is in Mission, and I will be going to Menorah
Topic: RE: BCBS Kansas City
Just to clarify......... BCBS of Kansas is different than BCBS of Kansas City... All the "blues" are different companies but they try to work together to coordinate benefits. Insurance covers what your Employer has opted in to. What you need to find out is if YOUR COMPANY has an exclusion.

Hi Steph, Thank you for the response. Up until a tear or so ago Louisiana did not accept medicaid either and then they did. Now though I think all states have to use a center of excellence. I will gladly travel if need be so if you find out anymore info please let me know. Good luck to you also!

As of today I'm down exactly 80lbs since October 5. Now my wife has had the surgery too and we are working out 3 times a week. More weeks than not I make it 4 times. She had her surgery done October 26. She's down 51lbs. As for waiting, I got a surgery date on July 12 for October 5. Longest 3 months ever. The waiting game blows chunks. I understand about the eating too. I had to fight the last meal syndrome for 3 months. I just stayed determined which I'm good at. Having my wife as a cheering section helped too. She got her date 2 days before my surgery so after I got home I was doing the same for her. That helped a lot going through this together. I haven't seen dream on these boards since she first posted after getting home. I'm concerned myself because they had her open for a long time after finding something wrong. She never really said what but she did say she was still having a hard time. I guess all we can do there is pray.

Kelli,
I wish you all the best. There has to be someone out there who will take Medicaid for wls, if I knew I would gladly tell you. I have Medicare and I have to go all the way down to Norman, Oklahoma because no one in Kansas is a Center of Excellence yet. Good luck.

Mark,
I forgot that you had gotten a surgery date and had to wait for it to arrive, it was like two months for you wasn't it? How did you keep from going crazy counting down the days till it arrived? I find myself wanting to eat everything in sight and have to force myself into thinking that it is not good for me and I really do not want to gain more weight. How much weight have you lost? Do you ever hear from Dream? I hope she is well. I know I will get through this next couple of months and March will be here before we all know it.
