Topic: RE: A self-pay patient
I have attended 2 of their seminars. The biggest thing they don't tell you is that they charge extra for the fills and post-op care. The $13,500 price quote is only for the pre-tests and the surgery. I know the fills are $175-$200 each time...
Topic: Looking for a new surgean
Hi, my mom had the lap-band done in July 06 at the OMISH hospital. The follow up care was of no help to my mom. she immediatly showed signs of infection at the port incission. OMISH called her a problem child and said they never seen this before. They squeezed on it and gave her antibiotics. She went back, they did the same thing and acted as they had no clue of what was going on. It came to the point she was scared to go back to them. She has since found a wound specialist and this last weekend had to have the port removed, leaving an 1'' hole for the infection to drain.
Her health is good and she has lost over 60 lbs and wishes to have her port replaced or the rest of the band taken out when she heals but is scared to go back to OMISH and wishes to find a new surgean . I am looking for recommendations. Thank you,Lori

Hi. My Mom went to OMISH in Lenexa. My Mom is looking for a new surgean. She had to have her port removed Friday and now has over 1'' hole in her stomach to let the infection drain. Bless her heart , she has done so well and wants to have her port put back in but not by OMISH. Any recommendations?

Hi, my mom has had a bad experience with her lap band surgean in Lenexa. She had her lap-band done in July 06 and has been batteling a nasty staff infection ever since. Her surgean had no idea what it was or cared enough to direct her to someone who knew how to treat her. She has been going to a Wound Specialist and this weekend had her port removed so they could clean this mess up. She feels that if someone would have treated this earlier maybe she would have not went thrun all of this. she still has the band and the tube and will need to find another surgean. Have you had good experiences with Solutions For Life? I am looking forward to hearing back from you. thanks, lori

Topic: RE: looking at having lap band
I went to Mexico Sept. 15, 2006 and saw Dr. Rumbaut in Monterrey. He is fabulous and I would highly recommend him. I lost 150# after one year with the band and have felt wonderful. I see Dr. Malley in K.C. for my fills, and he is an awesome doctor as well, but because I was self pay, I chose the best of the best in Mexico. The band is a fabulous tool and has worked beautifully for me. I hope this is of some help to my fellow Kansans

Topic: RE: Shopping around
My personal opinion....absolutely you should shop around! I wish I would have done a little more shopping myself because I was self-pay at $17,500. Lots of people go to Mexico purely because of the price.
The one year of followup that came with my price was definitely a bonus. LapBand followup is EXTREMELY important. If your insurance won't cover your band, they're not going to cover your fills either. Three months is really NOT enough time to get on the right track with a band before you're on your own. If you go that route, you may have to be prepared to pay for your own fills after the three months, so be sure to look into the price.
So, I guess my point is, you don't have to pay the highest price, but you may not want to go bargain-basement either! Just keep in mind that the experience that the surgeon has with BAND surgeries is very important, and the followup is very important. Just my 0.02!
