I just got the call today that my surgery is scheduled for the 17th of June!  I am so excited!  Insurance approved me on Wednesday.   I can't wait to start my new life!

I also was a Medicare pay.  Medicare is my secondary insurance and Blue Cross of Ks is my primary.  Blue Cross absolutely will not pay for anything that has to do with weightloss.  It's true Medicare does not pre approve anything.  If you do everything that they require on the list that Tallgrass provides then you shouldn't have a problem.  I'm sure you've already done the requirements or you wouldn't have a scheduled date.  Medicare was very good at paying there part.

I had my consultation with Dr. Berntsen April 12 of this year.  Then waited until I got the call on April 30th from scheduler Debbie, who offered me July 2nd for my duodenal switch, and I took it.
I have Medicare which very annoyingly refuses to pre-approve, so we have to go through all the hoops and then pray they pay for it after the fact.

Just an update: I attended the seminar for The Bariatric Center of KC, and I was very impressed. I submitted my paperwork for Dr. Hoehn and will be (hopefully) be getting my surgery done there.

For me it was around 2-3 mos, but that was almost 6 years ago...they only 2 doing the surgery at that time. They have expanded considerable since I had mine, so I wouldn't think you would have a horribly long wait.

Are you kidding?!

All surgery carries inherent risks, up to and including death.

Topic: Are these rumors? Does anyone know if they are true?
Some people that knew I was getting ready to have surgery in Topeka, came up to me and told me that they have heard of some people dying after having surgery in Topeka.  They gave me some details about a particular person, which I happened to know the family.   I emailed the family and they wouldn't confirm anything for me, but said they didn't want to talk to me about it, nor would they tell me which doctor she had.    I realize this could be rumors and each person has their own problems or complications.   This is now freaking my husband out and is afraid I might die if I have the surgery done.   My question is..... Does anyone know about this and are some of these rumors true?   I want to have my surgery right away, but am dealing with these fears.   I want to ease my husbands fears, because  I want to stay with Topeka and not go elsewhere and have to start all over again.   Thanks for anyones help in this matter.

I got approved. 8/10...and surgery was scheduled for 10/1....I could of gotten it about 2 weeks earlier but due to my husband's schedule at work I needed it on a certain day for him to be able to take the time off...they were very accommodating...I love Tallgrass!!...they have been awesome.
