Topic: RE: New Lapbandster to KS Board
Welcome Sarah! We're glad you found us! I, too, spend most of my time over on the main lapband message board, but there are lots of nice folks here on the KS board and I try to make a point of checking in once a week. We have LOTS of new WLS postops on the KS board (although they're very quiet right now, ahem!). LOL Please keep us posted on your progress!! ~Tiffany

Trudy don't give up. I also received the letter from United Healthcare. My surgery is set for April 9th at Shawnee Mission Med Center and the letter stated coverage would end on April 1st. What I found was that they are still negotating the contract and have been since August of last year. My surgery will go on as planned and be covered by the insurance company. Dr. Stanley Hoehn is my surgeon. Keep the faith and your date will come too! Shari

Topic: RE: BCBS help
I have tried contacting the insurance commissioner and she doesn't return emails or calls. I think she is partly responsible for drafting the policies that exclude WLS in most insurances in the state. If your going to sue, sue the state to make the policy not BCBS, because it's the state that has the exclusion written in not BCBS. I am in the same boat and very angry! Cruz

Topic: Now the wait....
Had my last pre-op class tonight and it was just about as boring as it gets. The lady who did it should have let someone else do it. But anyway, I now have the wait of seeing how long it will take for my insurance to approve and then off to the surgeon. When I started this process, I wanted to have this done by May. Now I am not sure when I will get it done. Everyone just pray that I hear back sooner then later. Thanks, KD

Thanks for the reply. We were considering the attorney route next, but won't spend the money if it's been tried. Any chance of getting the KS insurance commissioner involved? I know other states have done that with success.

Topic: Hello
I'm new to this board and wanted to say hello and tell you a bit about myself. I have been fighting my weight since I was 12. During my younger years I was able to control my weight, but it was always difficult. I have 4 co-morbidity's to go along with the morbid obesity, so I'm very anxious to have this done. My doctors are overjoyed and even my insurance company is doing what is necessary to get everything approved. I found out last night that Shawnee Mission Med Center is not renewing their contract with United Healtcare. Great - NOT! That is the only hospital my surgeon uses, so now I'm checking into other surgeons. I live in the Kansas City area and would love to hear your success stories and what doc/hospital you went through. I have a lot to say, but it's late and I'm pooped. I'll post more tomorrow. Trudy, the new kid on the block.

Solutions for Life has a support group that meets every Tuesday night at 530 pm. I am not sure how you go about getting into the support group. I have to join because I am getting ready to have surgery done. Look in the phone book under the business yellow pages under weight loss. They will have a phone number to call for :Solutions for Life - Weight Loss Surgery. I know you had the surgery, however, it is the number you call to get hooked up for the other stuff as well. If you get a voice mail, leave a message and they will call you back. If I can find my paperwork that has the number on it, I will PM you later. I have been to some of the support classes and they are good as well as informational. Good Luck, KD

Topic: RE: Bad gallbladder update on St Francis
Hi Mark, Everything went well. I am still sore in my left side but doing good. I lost 10 pounds on my pre-op diet so that was a pleasant surprise. I was kind of pleased with myself on that darn thing I thought I would be tempted to cheat but the protein and water sustained me. I did get your message and I appreciate it. Steph

In a word. NO. Not what you wanted to hear I know but people have gotten lawyers trying to get them to pay and lost. There's an online petition posted here on the KS board on page 2 I think. I signed it myself. I have BCBS of Kansas and they wouldn't pay either but Medicare did.
