Hi Athina. My surgeon didn't put me on anything for my GB after surgery. He never even mentioned that this drug was out there. As for how long, I think my GB was unhappy the day after surgery. Everything coming out was yellow. (sorry for the graphics) I didn't think much of it at first but tests 2 months post-op showed my liver enzymes were high. Then at 5 months out they did a sonogram and it showed that my GB was chronically inflamed and had some stones in it. That's when they removed it. I don't know if 5 months is enough time to form stones or not but it seems fast to me. He also said that stones are not always the cause. I guess that sometimes the GB just malfunctions after RNY. This would fit because 2 months after surgery my liver enzymes were high. That is just to soon for stones. But if your doc has a med that he thinks will help preserve your GB then I'd definitely take it. Getting it removed is a snap but is still more surgery and I wonder if it is worth leaving it in. Chances of it going bad are 70%.

My apologies as well. I misunderstood. I thought you looking to have the surgery. Any how congratulations on being an official loser. I look forward to the day that I too can become a loser. I have less than 2 months to go, so you can imagine the anxiety and the excitement. Any how, so how have things been working out for you? Are you excited about your results from RNY?

Hello, My name is Tiawna and I'm from Topeka, KS. I currently live in Hampton, VA. I didn't think Tricare covered Lap-Band. I was told that Tricare only cover RNY. It may depend whether you are prime or standard. Also, I know that Topeka is about 45 minutes from you, but I'm certain that the Cotton O'neil clinic there has Specialist. You can also check under Stormont-Vail Regional medical center. I wish you many blessings, do not get discouraged, this is obtainable. We are active duty Military, and I am close to receiving my official surgery date,(sometime in May). I am planning on having the Laproscopic RNY. So please find out as much as you can now so that the process can be as smooth as you can make it for yourself. This process with Tricare can really TRY your determination to reach your ultimate goal. God Bless You!

Hi Mark, My name is Athina, and if any of my questions are too personal, please disregard this posting. I was just wondering about your gallblader surgery. I am new to this board, so I'm sorry in advance for asking this if you've already discussed it. Did your doctor put you on a medication called Actigall? I think that's the right name. Anyway, in my pre op packet that is one of the medications that I will be taking while I am losing 10 or more lbs./month. It's supposed to help the GB from going bad. And if I may also ask, how long after your wls did you have GB problems? Hope you're feeling better, Athina

I have UHC and I had my surgery at Tallgrass in Topeka - If you are doing the band it is a single day surgery at Tallgrass - if you are having RNY by-pass you will have to stay at St Francis hospital in Topeka. I had my surgery on 3/15 and I was very pleased with my surgeon (Dr. Steward) and St. Francis. I have a friend in the KC area that was banded at Tallgrass too... she was very pleased as well. Amie
