Topic: RE: The Bariatric Center of KC
does the bariatric center of KC help you with getting the proper lingo for your doctors to write in your files, so the insurance will approve your surgery?

Topic: RE: Am I a lost cause?
No one is ever a lost cause and most of us have struggled with our weight our whole lives. Fianances are always hard for us not so rich but oh so fabulous! Call and talk to your insurance company - doesnt hurt to ask. Call and talk to some credit places - doesnt hurt to ask. Call and talk to physicians to see if they have any pay plans - doesnt hurt to ask. Check out your options to see if there are some opportunities just waiting.
Hope everything is going well for you. Keep us updated!

Topic: RE: Are these rumors? Does anyone know if they are true?
There is a very high learning curve with weight loss surgeries. Ask your particular surgeon what HIS outcomes have been. Ask him what his mortality rates are. Ask him how many surgeries exactly like yours he has preformed (over 300 total is good). Ask him what his complications typically are and at what rate. Ask him what his follow up procedures are.
You do need to know this is an invasive procedure. You do need to be your own health advocate.
Hope everything is going well for you and I definetly hope these are rumors.

Topic: Who's in Wichita?
I've heard there is a free Weight Loss Surgery support group that meets at Wesley hospital. I am trying to confirm that information.
Anyone know of any other support groups?
Who else is here in Wichita?
I had my surgery in 2007 went from 300 down to 185. Had a baby and went up to 215.
I used to go to some support groups when I lived in Colorado that I LOVED. No one gets you like other weight loss surgery folk!
Hope everyone is doing well!!! :)

Topic: RE: Are these rumors? Does anyone know if they are true?
I have also heard that rumor. I don't know if there's any truth to it. My mother and I went to a seminar in topeka for a certain bariatric group and we both came out with the same impression. We didn't think they were experienced enough to go cutting on my body. But that was just our impression of them. It may not even be the same group as what you are working with. If you're really not sure about your surgeon, do some more research on them. Talk to some of the other patients that have had your surgeon and see what they have to say. Go with your gut feeling.
