Topic: RE: PCP Recommendation in KC
Nicole,

I would highly recommend my primary care doctor. Her name is Sahar Kamel. She is with Shawnee Mission Primary Care near Shawnee Mission Hospital. Her phone number is 913-384-4040. It took me almost 2 years to get my insurance to pay for my surgery. She wrote several letters for me. I had my surgery on 4-28-2010 at Shawnee Mission Hospital. I would also recommend KC Bariatric Center for weight loss surgery. Dr. Christopher Kowalski did my surgery. They have monthly support groups and they care about their patients!

I am self-pay and will be having my surgery with Dr. Hoehn on Aug. 4th.  They have taken me through the process on a fast track which is great.  Once I decided to do this, I didn't want to put it off for long.  They are very professional and so nice and caring.  They know what they are doing and have a excellent customer service program!

I am having surgery Aug 4 and live about 1 1/2 hrs away from Shawnee Mission.  I saw the time of the group meeting and that will not work for me either.  I work also and then would have to drive.  Not a good time!  If you find any others please let me know. Thanks!

Anyone know of a support group that meets in the evening?  I had my sugery with KC Bariatrics, but they only have daytime meetings, and I work.
Thanks!

My PCP is Mahesh Chandra at Centerpoint Internal Medicine in Independence. He has been very supportive of my decision to have bariatric surgery. He was also able to give me all of the documentation I needed for insurance. Hope this helps!

Hi all,
I live in KC. I was wondering if any of you can suggest your PCP. I am looking for someone who is pro-bariatric surgery and was able to document everything you needed for insurance purposes.

Thanks!!!

Topic: RE: Are these rumors? Does anyone know if they are true?
Wow...I haven't heard that rumor...I had a RNY there 6/1/2 years ago with Dr.  Steward from Tallgrass.  He has done my gallbladder, multiple EGD"s, multiple diagnosic laparscopies and now lives in Oklahoma.  Now I have Dr. Berntsen and she has taken out my appendix.  I have nothing bad to say.  The issues I have have nothing to do with their work.  I was RNY #160 and I would be first now that I know them.

If you are hearing that people die, it may be not following directons.  I have one friend who had an emergency perforated ulcer (most likely caused by her smoking) and another friend who had emergency surgery due to her being anorexic in order to lose more weight.

Let us know what you learn but in my opinion they are the greatest.  I trust them totally!!

The staff at the center make sure that you have all the proper documentation and help you meet any requirements needed by your insurance co. as well as their program. It's truly a complete program. The only thing your Primary Dr. may be responsible for is documenting any required diet (most insurance co's want a 3 or 6 month Dr. supervised diet). Otherwise you have all of your records forwarded to the center and they take care of the rest.

I highly recommend attending one of the seminars and checking out their website at:

kcbariatric.com

I've decided to have my procedure here, and I have been very impressed with how thorough they are in both making sure you have the needed documantation and requirements and in how well they educate their patients.
