Yep,  others who have replied are right.  BCBS of Kansas has a specific exclusion for any weight loss surgery.  Self-pay is a huge investment, but I still think that it is very much worth it.  I went through surgeryloans.com for financing.  I was also able to take a deduction for medical expenses this year on my taxes.  I also think that being self-pay makes a person even more determined to do EXACTLY what the doctors recommend.  Not that you wouldn't anyway, but knowing that any extra procedures would come out of your pocket, it just keeps a girl honest, you know?!      Tallgrass in Topeka had the best price for self-pay lapband.  All total, my procedure cost me $12,500 and that includes 2 years of follow-up care.  Good luck!

Hello,

Welcome to the Sunflower state!  I live in Emporia, KS and use Tallgrass in Topeka.  My surgeon was Dr. Bernita Berntsen and I have been nothing but pleased.  I haven't had a bit of trouble since being banded.  I've only had 2 fills, so I realize that I'm still technically a "newbie", but so far, Tallgrass has been great.   Take care!

Hi! I just wanted to say "Welcome to Kansas!" I live right next door to you here in Ogden (you know, the little town you have to slow down for on your way to Manhattan). We use to be an Army family too, but now my husband is a civilian employee for the DOD. I love Kansas too! When DH got out of the military we moved to Brooklyn, NY for awhile but I made him bring us right back here! Of course I was born and raised here...

Not sure about the Livlite people for follow up care, I'm a Tallgrass girl myself. Good luck to you and welcome to the neighborhood!

Revised from band to sleeve on June 6th, 2012. Lost 48 pounds on my own in the 4 months prior to revision.

You live close to Ft. Riley, so you're not too far from Junction City. Give the girls at live-lite @ Geary Community Hospital a call. I'm sure they can help you out! A great group of people!! Good Luck and let us know how you turn out. Hugs Theresa

You might want to try calling Tallgrass. If you tell them you are wanting to be a patient they may help. They are very knowledgeable about that kind of stuff and have someone on staff that handles the insurance stuff.

Topic: Desperately Need Info!!!

Hello! I am new to this site, but was told to check it out by a friend who had the surgery 2 years ago. My reason for being here is that I am a retired military spouse who needs information for my doctor.  I live in a town about an hour from Ft. Riley and my doctor is a TriCare Prime provider.  She has written a letter for TriCare but lacks the information as to who to send it to so that we can move forward to get me on the referral list for the surgery.  I am hoping someone can get the correct information to me quickly so I can in turn get it to her.  If anyone has the correct info, please, please get back with me here a.s.a.p.  She does know about Tallgrass in Topeka and has advised me about that.   I appreciate any help I can receive concerning this. Thank you so much!!! Msd7

Yes,  just try to do the best you can to get off as much as you can. I worked hardest to get rid of the first 36 pounds that I lost from January 07 to mid-May 07. The next hundred pounds was much easier (due to surgery...naturally) and now these last few pounds are proving to be my personal challenge.  I'm SO GLAD that I got those 36 off before so that instead of now having only 15 more to go, I would have had 50. When you get down to the end, that last 20-30-40 pounds will make a difference. Best of luck to you. Just do well and you will have yourself to thank in the end. John

good luck to you.  Good to include the kids in healthy eating. I have eaten way more than I should have this week end.  I know the band will help get me back on track but wow,  It is like I can't satisfy what I want.  tomorrow I will drink my water which helps.  I want to drop some major lbs before spring break.  I need to because it will help inspire me to keep going.

Topic: RE: Tall Grass Topeka - How do you start the process?
I am also a Tallgrass patient. I cannot say enough good things about the staff at Tallgrass. Rachel and Brenda were great pre-op and everyone has been great post-op. The process to get started is mentioned above. You can also call 785-232-0444 and one of the voice prompts is to speak to a baratic nurse. They can tell you as well.  Their weightloss web site is http://www.topekaobesitysurgery.com/
