Thanks, that does help.  A lifelong dependency on supplements would not be a good thing for me.  I switched to the depo shot because I would forget my B.C. pills.

I'm aware of his seminars, just like to do my own homework on all the WLS options out there, so much has changed in the last 12 years.  I think there is 1 or 2 at the end of January I will probably attend.

Thanks again.

Yes, with the RNY you are dependent on supplements the rest of your life. With the LapBand and Sleeve you are normally able to absorb enough of your intake that all is needed long term is a multi vit.

As far as Dr. Hoehn's stats they are not as current as they should be. He has been doing Sleeves for a little over 2 years now and it is a large part of his practice. Most insurances have not been covering the Sleeve til recently so that is one reason those numbers are lower. Knowing what I know now and had he been doing them when I had my WLS, over 3 years ago, it would be my WLS of choice. Although I am very pleased with my LapBand, with the Sleeve you don't have the adjustments needed at the beginning like the LapBand. And of course we are all excited to get the weight off immediately following surgery.
Not that you asked but I am very pleased with Dr. Hoehn and their overall program. You might want to attend a free information seminar at Bariatric Center of KC where the surgeons explain each surgery in detail and answer questions. It would be a good resource of correct information for you to make a well informed decision. You can learn more and register at their website www.kcbariatric.com.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Question for those of you who have had your WLS by Dr. Hoehn already...

I see from the stats he posts that he is most experienced with the RnY, next the LapBand and a 3rd with the Sleeve.

The Sleeve seems to be the latest "fad" if you will and I was curious what things were factors by you and the Dr. on deciding which surgery to have.  I've heard by several that the RnY you are required to take various vitamin supplements for the rest of your life....

They still take Medicare, which covers WLS, including my DS.
Kansas chooses to not have its MedicAID cover any WLS; some other states do cover WLS in their Medicaid programs.
It appears that Tallgrass used to accept WLS patients who had both Medicare and Medicaid, but they stopped accepting that combination in 2009 or 2010 for WLS, I guess because they would have to eat such losses from Medicaid not paying its share at all.
