Hi Jeanne, Thank you so much for your comments.  I am really glad to hear you are impressed with Dr. Hoehn - I was impressed with him when I heard him speak at the orientation class I attended, however, never knowing where you are at in the process and not being able to talk to anyone has just about changed my mind on having him do my surgery.  I guess I'm concerned that once I have surgery and if I should have a problem and need to contact his office - I'll never get a hold of anyone - Scary thought!  I have a couple of friends that went to Tallgrass in Topeka about the same time I started the process with Dr. Hoehn and they already have their surgery's scheduled for May.  I've done my research on all the doctors in Kansas and I wasn't impressed with any of the Dr's at Tallgrass, so I really don't want to go there.  I started out my journey for wls by attending Solutions For Life here in Wichita, but it seemed I would be spending alot of money even before being approved for surgery - I couldn't afford that.  Could you give me the phone number you called when you talked to Becky.  Apparently, the number I have will not let you talk to a real person - you have to leave a message even if you press "0" it will not transfer you to anyone.  Thank you again for replying to my post - You're really doing AWESOME on your WL journey  - keep it up and keep in touch, 'k!!  - Cindy

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with Dr. Hoehn's office.  He was my surgeon also, and I didn't have any problems talking to anyone.  My advice is the same...call the number and speak with Becky.  I never really had to talk with Nola.  However, I was lucky enough to already have surgery approval with my insurance prior to going with their group, as I started elsewhere with my wls journey.  I do think Dr. Hoehn is the best, and am so glad I went with their group for my surgery.  I had a wonderful experience and fantastic follow up care.  Let me know how things go. Jeanne

Hi Sammy, Thank you so much for your comments.  So why have you decided to have your surgery in Mexico???  Please read the comments cdecker78 left on my post - apparently, he had to wait also, but he called the office and pressed "0" to get a hold of a "real" person.  I really think we should do that and express our concerns to Nola (whenever we get a chance to talk to her), because I really think Dr. Hoehn is very, very, good - this is one surgery I don't think we want anyone to "botch".  It also looks like the squeaky wheel does get the grease as cdecker said.  I'm going to try doing that and see if it does help speed things along, hope you will too!!

Thank you so much for your comments.......I can't exactly say I was encouraged by it though, because I'd really like to have my surgery this summer.   Can you tell me what number you called when you spoke with Becky????  Every number I have tried does not give me an option to press "0", and when I did anyway the recording would say it was an invalid number.  I'm really excited to hear you have your surgery date scheduled - finally, the "light at the end of the tunnel", huh!! Thanks again for messaging me back - Have a terrific day, 'k!! Cindy

Topic: RE: hi everyone
Tallgrass takes Medicare patients. They didn't a while back because for Medicare to pay you have to have the surgery done at a Bariatric Surgical Center of Excellence. At the time there wasn't one in Kansas. St. Francis is now a COE and they are doing Medicare patients again. Unless they changed their minds but they seemed pretty committed a year ago and they did my gallbladder surgery last year. If not then Dr. Hornbostel in Sedalia MO takes Medicare patients. He did mine in Oct of 2006.

I know you may not want to hear this but.... It took them a while to get back to me as well. I called everyday and pressed 0 to get Becky at the front desk. I always asked to speak to Nola. If she told me Nola was busy or on the other line, I would say I needed to speak to someone about my file and told her the truth.... I told her I have left several messages and no one ever returned my call and I needed to speak to someone and not their machines. When you get a hold of Nola let her know your concerns. I went to another surgeons office and could have had surgery a lot sooner ... But things just didn't feel right.  I knew Dr Hoehn is one of the best in Kansas City. I am not making excuses for them but things like this do take time. They are understaffed at the office. The way it was put to me was "The squeaky wheel gets the grease." Best of luck. Chris If you have any questions please feel free to PM me. My date finally got set for May 19th.

Here is our creed, if you fit this you are a wls LW and we hope you will join us on the LW forum Here is the link http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/wls_lightweights/ The Lightweight Creed (Created and approved by members of the OH Light-Weights Forum, Jan 2008)

I am a Lightweight. I am only one of many others like me. Together, we are a team. Though our journeys and choices may be different, we are bonded together by the commonality of being Lightweights and the strategies, successes and struggles that entails. It is this bond that defines this board.

I began my journey with a BMI of less than 45 and/or with less than 150 lbs excess weight. My lower BMI and excess weight does in no way make me less deserving of medical intervention, and I should not be made to feel inferior or guilty.

I qualified for WLS because I have co-morbidities, or because my medical history proves that my weight is diet and exercise resistant.

I have worked with my healthcare team to determine the best surgical option for me. I am confident that others have done so as well, so I will refrain from passing judgments.

I will freely share the most accurate information I have, as well as my own personal journey and why I chose my surgery in an informative, educational and respectful way so that others may learn from my experiences.

I respect the decisions of my fellow Lightweights, regardless of the surgery they chose and the nutritional/exercise plans they follow.

I will always promote health and a healthy lifestyle, whether physical or mental; and will respect alternate methods and views toward achieving good health, even if I do not espouse them personally.

I will always be sensitive, honest and respectful when contributing to discussions on this board and in my PMs. I will never flame, demean, invalidate or harass others for their questions or decisions. I will remember, at all times, the difficulties and pain I went through on my own journey and be considerate of others when discussing theirs.

I will always defend and unite with my fellow Lightweights against prejudice and hostility.

I understand it is my responsibility to report offensive conduct to my fellow Lightweights, so that we may deal with offending parties as a united front to preserve the supportive and tolerant atmosphere of our board.

I understand that if my conduct becomes offensive, I will not be welcome to participate on this board any longer.

YES!  I had the exact same experience!  My last communication from them was a card dated 3/31 stating that they had received my release from Dr. Sabapathy and the dietician and that they were preparing my letter for insurance.  The card said that they would contact me when the letter was ready.  I have not heard ANYTHING from them!  I have left two different messages and do not get a call back.  I know I have a difficult insurance company to deal with, but I even told them that I was interested in self-pay and wanted to know the cost!  NOTHING!  I' ve since given up on them and have scheduled my surgery with a doctor in Mexico on June 2.  I would have loved to have had Dr. Hoehn do my surgery and the people in the office are so nice, but I agree with you.  I just don't feel right about them not being able to return my telephone calls.  I'm sorry it is happening to you, too.  I don't know if they are simply too busy or what.  I started with the 6 month supervised diet early last year and I just don't want to wait any longer to get myself started on this journey.  Best of luck to you.  Sammy

Hi Susy - I notice that you have only posted to the Kansas forum.  Have you checked out the RNY forum?  There is a lot of activity and TONS of support on the surgery specific websites.  Give this a try.  http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/rny/a,messageboard/board_id,5465/  Good luck and take care - Sammy
