Just starting out with Medicaid

I live near K.C. and I have medicaid. The doctors at my weight loss center say that medicaid refuses to pay for gastric bypass. But I heard there was a group out of Wichita that might be able to help me. Does anyone know about this group or anyway I can get help to get this surgery? I certainly am not rich enough to pay for it.

Hi, Kansas Medicaid does not cover Bariatric Surgery at this time. The best thing for you to do its to write to your congressmen, senators and the governor. Each state is allocated federal funds and each state decides how the funds will be used. Many states do cover Bariatric Surgery or Gastric Bypass Surgery as it is called, but I guess Kansas is one that doesn't feel it is needed. Good luck! The stingy hospitals here in Wichita do not even accept Medicare. I doubt if they would accept Medicaid.
