Hi all, Is anyone using a Doctor that really supported WLS and was willing to write your letter to the insurance? I am in the Kansas City area and have Cigna POS. Thanks, April

Hello April; I did not need a physicians letter of necessity, as my insurance did not cover the prcedure/surgery. My WLS was Dr. Phillip Hornbostel in Sedalia. mo. he is wonderful. my surgery was 4/3/06 I go back to work Monday. Good luck with your journey. Ususally one would start with a primary care physician. but if yourP. C. is not wanting to go along, you may need to find another primary care physician, or a specialists. ie if you have heart probems, see a ht doc. or diabetic, see that doc, they would most likely write a letter of medically necessity. Debra from kc. Good Luck, and Hugs. I will be thinking of you. write back if you would like. Just dont give up if this is what you want. it took me over 2 year to find a doc, and to get the surgery done.

Hi April, My PCP dr is Dr Phillips in Olathe, he was very supportive, I live in OP. I recently moved here from FL...my ortho dr in Fl suggested it since I need to have knee replacement but then my PCP in FL veto'd it. So after I got moved here I contacted the new PCP and he was all for it .. I went to BarixCLinic in Belvidere, Il, just nw of Chicago...Dr Vaughn was my surgeon, the nursing staff was awesome. After I went the consultation I knew I wanted it done there. I have Humana and my ins policy had a clause written in there that it would not cover so I opted not to wait and paid for it myself, knowing in my own mind it was medically necessary, I have since gotten letters from my FL Ortho Knee Dr and sent to Human to appeal..hoping to get some of the money back...but keep in mind also, if you self pay, you can use it on taxes next year. So either way you can get some back. my surgery was Feb 15th and I am down 50 lbs now Hang in there ...if you want to chat more let me know... Rosalind

My WLS was through Tallgrass in Topeka. They are very wwonderful. I had CIGNA at the time and don't know what they take now. Their number is 785-232-0444. I don't know what to tell you about a PCP. Mine had been my doctor for 15 years and I had had several surgeries so all of htose docs wrote letters for me too. Let me know if I can help. Alice

Hi April, I am new to this message board, but your question caught my eye....I have a wonderful doctor, Dr. Van Tran. I mostly see her PA, which is M. Huntington at the Mission Family Practice in Mission, KS. They are both very supportive of weight loss options, such as medication as well as surgery. They both have written letters for me, although it did not help because I have BC/BS of KC - which will not budge. Anyway, they are wonderful! If you need their phone #, let me know. Good luck!
