Insurance Question???
Can anyone tell me if Kansas Medicaid pays for Gastric Bypass Surgery? I have met someone off line that is really needing the Surgery and has Kansas Medicaid and cant seem to get any answers from Medicaid if they cover the procedure? So if theres anyone out there that has Kansas Medicaid and has had the Surgery or if anyone knows someone that has had the Surgery, please leave a post so that I can help this sweet woman. Thanks for reading this Post......Hugs, Maria
Marty that would be wonderful...........Thank you so much for wanting to help. She is on Kansas, Medicaid and also recieves SSI. So if you could find out and then let me know, it would be greatly appreciated. I read in a post under Insurers in the top right corner, that was under Kansas Medicaid that some people have had it done and the latest one I seen was from 2004. So anything you can find out would be a great help.Again....Thanks.....HUgs,Maria :0)
Hey there Maria,
No Medicaid does not pay for the surgery at all. I have both Medicaid and Medicare and Medicare paid for the surgery. It really stinks that they dont help out at least, but i know they didnt. Do you have Medicare?? Where are you going to have your surgery?? I had mine in Topeka...ask your doctor if he can write a letter to Medicaid and see if they will on the doctors orders that you need this surgery...its worth a try..
Keep us posted!!

Hey Cat,

I dont live in Kansas, I was trying to help out a friend that has the Kansas Medicaid....I will let her know what you said, just might work..It is a shame that Medicaid wont cover that even if it is Medically Nessasary.....Well again, thanks for responding and take care.....Hugs,..Maria
Try your state's vocational rehab program. read below>
Since my surgery was a success (resurgery weight 245 presently 161 and still loosing) and almost complication free (a stricture was easily resolved) my sister, 350 pounds, and very highly qualified special Ed teacher in Mississippi wants to have the surgery. Her teachers union insurance absolutely will not cover the surgery. She's still 5 years from retirement but really wants to teach longer. Her days as a teacher are limited due to her extreme weight and other health related problems: High BP, diabetes, bad knees and hip, Gerd, depression and bad leg circulation.
She found that vocation rehab will pay for the surgery!!!!!!! She must jump through months of hoops: Dietary counseling, psych, medical qualifications and I'm sure there will be some sort of contract that requires she work for a certain amount of time after........dud, it's the reason for doing it at all, so she CAN continue to do the job she so dearly loves: teaching!
