Help!!! I'm very nauseous 6 weeks post-op
Hey, I was wondering if anyone is going through this nausea phase like I am? I'm 6 weeks post-op and I feel like crap. I don't vomit up any food after eating just have this overwhelming feeling to vomit. I constantly feel the need to vomit and it's gross. (I vomit mostly liquid and a mucus substance, sorry about the visual). If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly welcome them. I was given some Carafate to help, but to no avail. Thanks,
Mattie
I'm not sure about your exact situation, but things that helped me early out with the nausea was:
Deep breathing between bites, kind of like lamaze breathing. This serves two purposes. Slows down your eating AND helps you concentrate on something besides your pouch/food.
Drink something hot and soothing before you eat - I always had a cup of hot tea. This helped relax the pouch.
Eat in a stress-free environment and don't eat when you are rushed or stressed. Stress makes the muscles tense up and your pouch is a muscle
Suck on sugar-free peppermints after you eat. Peppermint is very soothing to the pouch.

Welcome to this wonderful journey.. well hon, what you are going thru is perfectly normal.. had that myself and wowee, did not like the feeling one bit and even at this late date (close to my two year mark) still get that same feeling at times but it will pass and when you look in the mirror and see the "new look" you have achieved.. well makes this all worth while.. Know this is not really a solution but did want you to know you are normal.. tee hee hee hee
Good luck to you and this wonderful adventure.. take care and feel free to ask anything, anytime.. Have a great losing day. Hugs, Fran
Dear Mattie,
My surgery is August 22, 2005. I attended another support group 2 weeks ago. What you describe I think is the turm frothing and can be caused by eatting too fast and not chewing your food bites 25 - 30 times. Some said they made sure they waited 5 minutes between bites. Also, not drinking 30 minutes before eatting or 30 minutes after eatting is what the KC doctors stress. Of couse your doctor has the final word. Watch surgar content in foods also has to be less than 5 grams per meals for us in KC. Some items with say sweetened with splenda but yet sugar is listed in the first five ingredients. NO NO
Maybe these ideas may help you.
I may be calling on help soon.
Sincerely,
Donna
