Weight Gain

Having some questions regarding the weight loss. Had surgery completed on 5/23/05 and lost 21 pounds the first two weeks post op. Got on the scale this AM and now I have gained four pounds. I have done nothing different except having the g-tube pulled last Tuesday and I have added champion whey to my protein intake as the chocolate tastes decent enough to keep down without having the gag reflex occur. I am assuming my body is adjusting to the shock of malnutrition/malabsorption. I am able to wear one size smaller in both pants and shirts, and my jewelery is swimming on me. Anyone else having the same problem?

Early on, I went a month with out any loss either. One thing I Have learned is to stay off those scales. Weigh one day a week, the same time of the day. I know it is hard, but believe me later on you will appreciate it. The fluctuations can be really frustrating. You are doing great. Besure you are drinking enough fluid. My problem was that I stated retaiing fluid, and now am on a very slight dieuretic and all is fine. 7 months out and nearly 125 pounds gone. FOR GOOD!!! Another thing, don't compare losses to others. Everyone looses different. those who started out with a lot of weight to loose (me) will loose faster in the beginning, but remember it will take us longer too. Best luck!!

Thanks for the words of wisdon Joan. I know I should not weight but once a week, however, like all the rest of us, I am anxious to get the ball rolling. I too believe I am retaining water. Before surgery I was on a combination diuretic/hypertension medication. I have experienced hypotension since surgery and have had to stop the medication. I also think it might be the old stomach adjusting to the change as when I had the g-tube in I could "unplug" and get rid of the gas and fluid build up. I will take your advice and weigh once weekly. Congraduations on your weight loss, I can only pray I am 125 pounds less by Christmas. To fly home at Christmas without having a second seat belt applied is a goal I have for this year. You also keep up the good work!!
