I'm having lap band surgery in Phoenix AZ and my mom - who is 67and lives in KC -- is thinking about getting it done. I know many surgeons exclude older patients. Anyone in the KC area over 65 who found a surgeon? Who is it? Any other ideas? She's in fairly good health. Teresa

Sorry, I can't help you. I know my surgeon will do it, but I had mine done in Junction City. Dr Stevens. I researched all the surgeons in the KC and Topeka area, and chose the drive to junction city. They (Drs Stevens and Boleman) are much more sensitive to patients who are obese. Have performed more sugeries than any other surgeon in the area, provide on-going followup for life, and participate in monthly support groups. And their complication rate is lower than any surgeon in the KC area. These are all points to research when choosing a surgeon for WLS. Good luck, let me know if I can help further.

Greetings and welcome to this wonderful journey.. Your Mom will do fine and yes, Tallgrass Surgical in Topeka is terrific with lapbands and Roux-en-y... Dr. Steward and Dr. Berntsen are really top knotch surgeons and well, after much research you will find alot of good docs in the area.. Good luck to your Mom and if she wants to research even further or even to meet this surgeons.. there is a support meeting on the 14th in Topeka at the St. Francis Hospital at 10 a.m. it is total informational and you get to meet these wonderful folks and speak to different ones who have had this surgery.. .. good luck and best of everything. Hugs, Fran
