For all the Guys out there
Well guys, this one's for you. I see the women have quite a bit of support out there, but I don't see too many posts from men. I know it's probably because us strong men don't don't need support. Support is only for women, right? {tongue-in-cheek humor
So don't consider this support, consider this a slap on the back, if that helps. After 6 months of studying the surgery option, some soul-searching, and a couple more failed attempts at dieting, I've decided, it's time.
If you're interested; I invite you to follow me on my journey into the obesity surgery wilderness. On my adventure, I will do my best to send back updates on my progress, log my successes and report any major obstacles or encounters with wild grizzly. I hope the tale of my adventures will be of use to anyone who decides to trek down this path.
Just a little background on my preparation up to this point; I've looked at surgery as an option for over a year now, researched it thoroughly on the internet, and have attended a seminar by Dr. Hohen who locally specializes in RNY & lap band.
I submitted all of my paperwork fall of '04 and have looked at every avenue insurance wise, with zero luck. I'm in that gray area where the insurance companies basically tell you, "you're morbidly obese, but it doesn't look like you're dying yet, so call us back in a year or two year when you have type 2 diabetes".
So happy day, we get to pay $22,000 out of pocket. It's a heck of a lot of money, but when you think about it, most people wouldn't blink an eye at spending that much on a new car. The body is basically a vehicle, one you'll have until the day you die, isn't it worth it?
It's not going to be easy financially, but we can swing it, and one part of my brain says, "hell, with a thinner body and a more positive attitude towards life, my career will start to take off again and I can make that money back within a few years, no problem".
So that's the background you can read more on my profile. Look for more updates coming soon.
