Has anyone ran into this in their insurance policy? I read thru mine and discovered that my insurance (State of Kansas) will pay for a lung, heart or kidney transplant that is 'medically necessary' but not weight loss surgery. Go figure that! HELP!

Yep! I have BCBS of Kansas and I have an exclusion in my policy. I have heard that BCBS of Kansas is just about the worst company to deal with. They will no budge. My husband's job is changing insurance in about a month but I don't hold out hope that anything will change. They are changing to Coventry of Kansas and I heard that they will not pay either. Good luck!!

Yes, I used to have BCBS of KS (I worked for the State for 10 yrs.).....actually it covered a lot of things quite well but when it comes to WLS, there is a big stupid exclusion. From what I've heard, there was one person in SW KS that got around it....don't know how but I heard that. I have Fed BCBS which has to run through the state's BCBS that you are in.......so mine ran through KS. They had no choice but to cover it since FED DOES cover it but they paid my hospital and my surgeon very poorly. I think your only real options are self pay or get different insurance.....neither of which is an easy option, I realize. Sorry! jenni
