Dumping

I had surgery on 8-3-04 and except for a couple of minor set backs it was uneventful. However, I have NO energy and tire so easily. I hope this will eventually pass. My big question is about the dumping syndrome. How many people out there are bothered with it. It has been AWFUL. Everything I eat causes it. I really mean everything except for the protein shakes that I still drink. Can anyone give me hope. One doctor said it usually passes after about a year but another told me I could have it for the rest of my life. Is there anyone out there who has it or had it and it passed. The medication I am taking for it has not helped at all. While my weight loss is wonderful and joyous I can not take much more of this.

I guess that what this surgery really amounts to is controled starvation. Can you get enough calories through the protein shakes? I guess that I hope for the dumping when I eat the bad things like candy and junk food but of course I hope that I will be able to eat quality foods and be able to keep them down. Since I haven't had my surgery yet I don't have any clue about what to do, but I hope you find something that you can eat that will give you some energy.

Thanks. I wish I knew something that would help. Not everyone is bothered with this syndrome. It is awful. No at this point I am not able to get enough down to sustain me or to have any energy at all.

Morning to you What does your surgeon have to say about this dumping? I had it, yes, but it passed and was basically due to overeating or eating too fast or drinking before eating or sugar that I did not realize I had taken in.... found I could not tolerate the cottage cheese that I had loved so much but that eventually passed.. am 15 months out now and doing great.. so keep up the spirit and ask your surgeon what is going on.. possible stricture.. mine was.. anyway... keep asking and checking and good luck hon.. I am still drinking my protein.. do so enjoy the Pro-Complex powders and can mix them with the crystal lite.. so yummy.. Good luck and remember "this too shall pass".. take care now and keep in touch hon. Hugs to you, Fran

HI PAM SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR PROBLEM WITH DUMPING. I FOUND OUT I DUMP WITH SUGAR FREE FOODS DUE TO THE ALCOHOL SUGARS. I ALSO DUMP IF I EAT GREASY FOODS. I DON'T KNOW IF YOU EAT ALOT OF SUGAR FREE FOODS BUT MAYBE THIS WILL HELP YOU. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SOMEONE DUMPING NO MATTER WHAT THEY EAT. ALOT OF FOLKS HAVE LACTOSE INTOLERANCE ALSO.

Have they completely ruled out stricture? It sounds alot like it. Is your gall bladder still with you? When my gall bladder went bad my dumping was not dumping. It was a bad gall bladder. Now I guess they take them out in surgery anyway. I have bad days but I wouldn't want it every day!!!! I'd go back and ask questions Doreen
