Hello, Need advise from anyone with a BMI over 60. Doc's nurse says that surgery may be risky. What were your experiences with this issue and was your surgery successful?

Elisa...my BMI was like 57or 59i****hink...it's been too long I can't remember..LOL. If you are having the open RNY your BMI isn't as much of a factor as it is with the Lap. You will probably be required to lose some weight prior to your surgery if you want it lap. My surgeons have done an OPEN procedure on patients that have had a BMI of over 90 very successfully. I had the Open RNY weighing in at 444lbs and lost 211lbs before I got pregnant. Good Luck!! Deanna K

I had LAP RNY 6/29/04 and my BMI was 61. I'm doing great, had a wonderful surgeon that was positive that he could do the LAP on me. I lost about 15 pounds pre-surgery and have lost 80+ since!
