Self Pay In KC?

Has anyone gone self-pay in Kansas City? What procedure did you have done? Who was the surgeon? Which hospital? What did it cost? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I just got the bad news from the attorneys, and it looks like there is no way around the exclusion in my employer's insurance policy. Melton, I am getting ready to go to Doc Hoehn in Shawnee Mission, I called about the information night, which is Tuesday at 7:00pm. When I called I asked about self-pay because I also have an exclusion in my insurance. She quoted me a price of $23,000.00 for having everying done. I have talked to people on the net, and this seems to be the average cost. However, people have told me that they have paid as much as $32,000.00. I am a little concerned about having this done, and then having complications, so that is one of the questions I will be taking with me to the information night. I did not go self pay, but I used KU Med Center and the bill was almost $75,000. This was an open RNY with absolutely no complications. The charge for the operating room was $45,000. My insurance paid it, but be very careful--I was totally shocked when I got the bill. Good luck to you in this wonderful journey.
