I am new to the board. I have just started my journey and am still in the research phase. I am going to an informational seminar in Kansas City with Dr****ch**** and Hoen on the 15th. Then I have an appointment with my doctor on the 25th and hopefully I can get the ball rolling. Most of the journals I have read on various web sites show pictures and entries from women and men much younger than I am. I am 52 years old. Is there anyone out there that has these doctors and/or are closer to my age? I have talked to a man over IM in up state New York who is one week out of surgery and he is 60. So I am assuming I am not too old for surgery.

Joan, I had surgery on Jan 23 in Topeka. I am 55 years old. My age was one of my concerns about having the surgery. I got along fine. They told me that recovery might be a little slower because of my age. I took 2 weeks off from work then just worked half days for a week or so. I have lost 70 pounds. I think the weight loss may be a little slower because of my age. But I am still happy with the loss and so glad that I had the surgery. The biggest problem I have had is being so tired. That is getting better but I still notice it some. Good luck with your journey. Linda Berk

Joan, I'm glad you asked this question. I'm 55 and am scheduled for surgery June 21st. I really don't think you have anything to worry about when comes to age. I'll be having my surgery in Topeka, at St. Francis Hospital. If you would like to attend some of our seminars. Second Saturday of each month 10-12 at St. Francis Meeting room you'ld be more than welcome and I think You'll find a number people close to your age. By the way, I grew up in Lawrence, have you lived their most of your life? Please email me at [email protected] whenever you like. If you have any questions or would just like to talk to someone about the surgery. Dan

Hi Joan, Dr. Hitch**** was my surgeon, in fact I am supposed to be at his seminar on the 15th and I would be happy to talk to you about any of your questions. I am a little younger, but not a lot - I am 46. We (Hitch**** & Hoehn patients) have a support group meeting the first Thursday of every month and there are people younger than me, and some older. I dont' think your age would be a problem at all! Hope I get to meet you on the 15th! Cherie

Hi Cherie! I will look forward to seeing you on the 15th, and to meeting Dr. Hitch**** From everything I have read about him, he seems like a good surgeon. and I know SMMC is a good hospital. I am really ready to get moving on this.
