OK OK I know the waiting is the hardest part and I am being as patient as possible, but I do have a question for anyone who has gotten their surergy date recently,, after your first consult did it really take a full two weeks to get a date? Did anyone have trouble getting approved? I have tri care and medicare. Fingers crossed that I can get my date soon,, they said at the appointment ( oh yeah I go to tall grass in topeka ) that they are setting appointments for the end of Aug, and sept. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for any help you can give me,,, B

I see the doctor's at Shawnee Mission Hosp.,They gave me a date at the first consult and a list of appt's., that I needed to have done before surgery, like cardic, pulomary, blood work and psyhc evelution.(sorry can't spell worth a hoot). But all surgeons are different.I passed everything ,but my psyhc.,and he said I have to much anexiety and pushed my date back.I beleive that every thing happens for a reason. Hope everything goes your way. my date is june 15 Hugs Helen

This is how things worked for me: I had my initial consult on Tuesday April 24th. I called and found out my paperwork had been faxed to Tricare on Monday May 10th (just under 2 weeks). I called Tricare everyday checking on the status of my pre-auth, and on Thursday May 13th (just 3 days) I had approval from them. I called Tallgrass and was informed that the surgery scheduler would contact me with a surgery date. I received an info packet in the mail about 3 days later with the surgery date of Aug 12th. It took about 3 weeks total from time of consult to getting a surgery date. Everything went smoothly but I was so impatient that it seemed like it took forever. Now I am trying to keep myself busy until August. I hope you get your date soon and everything goes smoothly. Joan

Morning No question is ever silly hon.. yep had to wait for the actual date but gave me plenty of time to get things straight and do all the things that would be needed for after the surgery.. This is the best thing I have ever done for myself.. and we do indeed have the best surgeons anyplace.. kindness and compassion are there.. Tall grass rocks... yahoo. Have lost so many inches that do not even recognize myself anymore.. this is so wonderful and am feeling so healthy. Had my Roux-en-y on Sept 15th 2003... best day of my life !!!! Take care now and have a great day... Best of luck to you as you travel on this terrific journey. Hugs to you, Fran

My 1st visit with Dr. S. was on 2-17-2004. Got insurance letter of approval 1 week later on 2-24-2004. Got letter in mail of surgery date 1 1/2 weeks after the insurance letter of approval on 3-5-2004. That ended up to about 3 months of waiting for the date to get here.

I didn't think it was silly. In fact your question was informative for me. My consult with Dr. Steward isn't until June 11th (I've been waiting since April for that) and I swear it seems like a year. So it looks like, with the info you provided, it will be fall before I get a surgery date. Maybe this process will teach me to be more patient ... or not! Anyway, thank you for the question.
