QOD 5-4-04
What is one thing that has surprised you most about WLS? (either what you've learned about it for the pre-ops or what you've actually experienced for the post-ops?)
My answer: I expected to dump and I don't....though I've only consumed a LOT of sugar in one setting once...and it was totally by accident. But not one single symptom of dumping.

I have learned that it takes a long time to get this surgery done, and alot of resurch. It's not like most in and out thing..

The one thing that has totally surprised me the most is that prior to surgery so many posties told me that after surgery they just didn't "think" about food, and so many of their cravings disappeared. I thought, yeah right, not think about food - that was totally foreign to me. I thought about food from the time I woke, till going to bed at night. Most of my thoughts were what would I eat for my next meal/snack. A friend of mine would often comment that she would "forget" to eat - how crazy was that...forget? to eat? Is she nuts??? Well, the big surprise - those posties were right. I don't think about food like I used to, nor do I crave the garbage I used to eat. I truly transformed from "living to eat" to "eating to live". And to top that, I have even "forgotten" to eat a few times myself!
