questions about gal bladders ( mis spelled??)
HI everyone,
I am having my consult on May 20, and waiting to get my surgery date.
When I was at the support meeting there was some talk about having your gal bladder taken out, like 30% of ppl or something. ( I haven't gotten the book yet but I'm sure it will have lots of info) anyway, if my mother had hers out when she was about my age, and there has been other family members with problems.
How do they decide who has it out,,, has anyone else had it done? How long where you in the hospital? They are also talking about ( my pcp ) having my "tubes tied" at the same time? Has anyone had that done before or after their WLS??? Anyway anything would help,,, any links for more information would be great too.
Thanks so much
B
HI, I had my surgery in Dallas. It was suppose to be lap. The doctor there said. If he had to open me up he would take my gallblader. I ended up having open surgery when he couldn't get a good seal. So when I woke up. He had taken it too. I haven't had any problems. Actually thought it was good. Didn't have to wonder if I would need it out later.

Hi B,
You don't have a lot on your profile so I can't see who your doctor is. Or you may not have one yet. I had my surgery there in JC with Dr. Stevens and Dr. Bollman through the LIV LITE program. The standard practice with these doctors is if you have the open RNY like I did; they take out your gall bladder. It is said that rapid weight loss will invoke gall stones so they just go ahead and take it out while they are in there. I'm not sure what the gall bladders purpose is anyway, but I haven't missed it in the almost 11 months since my surgery. Good Luck with yours.
