Pschological Evaluation
I had my surgery in Topeka but live in northcentral KS. I went to Dr. Tom Coleman in Manhattan...reason being, he does the psych evals for Liv-Lite in Junction City and is "WLS Friendly." I didn't want to take any risks, even though I didn't feel it would be a problem with someone else. I wanted to go to someone that was pro-WLS and had a good understanding of it. It was a 90 minute drive for me and worth it. I think the charge was around $200 which I had to pay that day but then ins. paid for it and his office reimbursed me.

No, Liv-Lite is only in about 7-8 locations around the country....and one of them happens to be in JC. What I really like about them is how organized everything is and since it is the ONLY thing they do (WLS), they really cater to the patient. They were totally wonderful to me as I started my journey but I wasn't able to have my surgery with them due to some insurance issues (Fed BCBS). The Live-lite gals were warm, friendly, and when talking with them, they make you feel like you are their only patient...that they totally care about your situation. I also hear that the hospital staff is wonderfully trained and knowledgable about WLS.
I ended up going with Dr. Steward in Topeka and I totally loved his personality and felt totally confident in his skill....and I do admit that having it lap instead of open like liv-lite does appealed to me too. I will say though, that I didn't sense near the "devotion" from his staff to make the process as smooth as possible like I did with the liv-lite staff (some were really good...Brenda, for instance did everything she could to get me a date that fit with my work schedule, but I ran into a couple that weren't overly helpful)......and my hospital experience was anything but wonderful (meaning the staff....I had several that were NOT good)! BUT, all that being said, I don't regret going with Dr. Steward....he is the best......it's just that some of his staff could take some hints from Liv-lite staff and the hospital staff in Topeka could definately stand to learn a LOT.....about WLS and about pt. care in general.
Just my two cents for what they are worth. And I know I got terribly off topic about what you originally asked!
