I'm Home and 5 days Post
HELLO LOOSERS!!!!! What a compliment! I have lost 8 lbs since the weigh-in JUST prior to surgery!! What a great feeling. I did post a very long update on my profile of the not so nice things that happend in the hospital. Today I feel better than yesterday, and yesterday was better than the day before. I got in 60 oz of Crystal Light today, 16 oz of broth, and 5 oz protein drink. I think I'm doing pretty good. I took a walk outside with my 3 yr old DD and she walked faster than I did. I walked 2 times around the block and it took about 30 minutes at the POST OP pace! I can't wait for tomorrow to see what I will be able to do! I'm still sleeping in the recliner, but thought about testing the bed this afternoon, but haven't yet.
*I feel like I'm starving!* I THINK I'm hungry all the time. It is murder having to cook for my family and not be able to nibble and taste to see if the food was cooked right or if it needs seasoning. I sit at the diner table with my family, drinking a cup of broth while they eat. I keep telling my DH "I'm so hungry" But I know I'm not really. That it is all in my head. He tells me in 28 days, I'll get over it!!!! I know I will. You all did. So, so will I. But it is SO hard right now. I'll be happy when I can eat SOMETHING - cottege cheese, scrambled egg, just anything!!!
Hi Debbi,
I am so glad to hear that you are home and doing better. I read your post of your hospital experience that you added to your profile. OMG!!! As someone who used to work in the health profession and in a hospital I was to say I AM SO SORRY THAT YOU HAD THAT EXPERIENCE! That tech is someone who should NOT be working in a care setting!!!! I know it wouldn't help you out now but you could write a letter of complaint to the hospital. Even if you don't know her name, it will be in your records and they can have a talk to with her. It won't help you but it might help other future patients (like me! ). Just a thought. I cannot believe she treated you like that, seriously. Shame on her!!!
Congratulations on the 8 pounds!!!!! I can't wait to be a LOOSER too! Only 17 more days and a wake up to go for me. (If I get the same tech I'll give her a stern lecture for you! )
I hope you have a wonderful recovery!!!
Carrie
Glad you are home and all is well.. sounds like it is a good thing you weren't in the hospital any longer.. I was in for a full five days and it all went well.. of course, there were painful moments and all but that was to be expected.. and the food was wonderful.. loved the broth and the jello.. and ate only about 1/4th to a half of it.. not bad at all.. So happy for your surgery and weight loss.. hope the rest goes better than your hospital stay. Best wishes. Happy losing... Fran
Debby,
I just read your profile, too about the hospital experience....mine was also not good. When you get your evaluation form from them (it comes from an independent company and you send it off to another state-- I think FL), let them know all this stuff.....I would even copy it off your profile and send them a copy....you don't have to tell them it is on your profile. I also thought that the lab people were very cavelier about the whole thing....only I didn't have the gas pain and the lady helping me was relatively patient. I did find it very hard to lay flat and not hit my head on the device that was there....and they acted like I was being a bit of a baby. My wheelchair also disappeared....so I had to sit there waiting for them to find another.....and like you, they helped me very little. Two of the nurses were my worst experience though...particularly the one that had the strong perfume on.....and had to be reminded over and over that I wanted/ NEEDED my pain med. I love Dr. Steward but I guess maybe we patients need to be telling him about our "not-so-good" hospital experiences. I would not go back to that hospital. If Dr. S. ever did more surgery on me (like my umbilical hernia), I would REQUEST Stormont-Vail instead.
