I also forgot to mention that the hospital only allows so many Medicare surgeries a month.  That could also cause a delay in scheduling.

I just got the call today that my surgery is scheduled for the 17th of June!  I am so excited!  Insurance approved me on Wednesday.   I can't wait to start my new life!

Hello.. I am just starting Pre Op with Tallgrass and I am wanting info on Dr. Bersten. I heard she is very good for the lap bpd/ds!!! i am going to the seminar in march...any suggestions???

 

I went to the seminar for Tallgrass in January. Dr Berntsen has performed multiple surgeries on my mom but not WLS. She's an amazing DR, and I really like her bedside manner. The nurse coordinator wanted my medical records and a sleep apnea test done before they'd schedule a consult with a surgeon. It seems like they are very efficient and try to take care of insurance requirements quickly. I feel like I've been waiting forever to see a surgeon though. I think it's just so once you meet your surgeon, you get started on the approval process. Good luck :):)

Hope you are still headed there this weekend and are on your way! She is smart, quick and wise. You are in good hands.  I actually prefer her, Dr Dunshee and have seen Dr. Cancelada  when I had another issue, but he does not do the DS. She is skilled and did mine lap. She has performed other surgeries on people I know with success.

That is who I'm thinking of going to also.  I have lap band right now and it's terrible, I'm hoping to have the DS next year and have been trying to research more on Dr. Bernstein.  Did you end up getting the surgery?

It really depends on what time of the year you are doing it.  I picked the day I wanted but could have had it sooner.  I had VSG with Dr. Hu!

I had Dr. Berntsen for my surgery.  I had my initial consult with her in the middle of July, but she wanted me to lose some weight before surgery.  I set a goal of losing "x" number of pounds per week, and was able to meet that goal in ten weeks.  I had the surgery on time as scheduled.

I cannot say enough about Dr. Berntsen's skills.  I think I would have been considered to be a higher risk patient due to my surgical weight, but she was able to do the DS lap and I have had NO complications.

Well ... except for having to buy new clothes every couple months!
