I am just going to keep coming back to Michigan. My next visit will be in July when we go on vacation so I will have to plan it out around Our camping trip. My Dr. is going to help me in Kansas too. I understand your frustration but it is the liability issues with the medical community that has made doctors so apprehensive to take on someone else's work. Their malpractice insurance is astronomical as it is. That and they are so busy with WLS being so popular now many have problems finding time for their own patient's aftercare.
I can't help but wonder where all these people that go to Mexico find their aftercare. This is a common problem throughout the USA.
Not wanting to be argumentative of course just trying to explain part of the reasons it is what it is.
Wishing you all the best that you so deserve,
Connie B.

Thanks I have decided to just stick with my Surgeon in Michigan. He is a wonderful man and I don't think I could find better. He not only did my Sleeve I had to take my daughter in to Hurley Hospital for emergence gallbladder Surgery and there was no one available to do it right away and he saw me and asked me what was up in the emergency room I told him he looked at my daughter chart and she was in surgery within 10 min. Then he just did my dads RNY 8 days ago. and he is doing great. So I believe I will stay with him. And just us OH as my support group. My Dr. Farhan does take other for care. Out of state or not. Thanks good luck to you too.

Welcome to Overland Park, Kansas!

I have lived here FOREVER and would happy to be a local support buddy for you.  I have my RnY surgery on February 1.  My doc is listed as one of those "Centers of Excellence" so maybe they could do it?  I would think at a minimum you could get into the support group meetings at SM hospital.

If insurance will pay even part of the $300 to get in on the post op stuff, that should be good, right?

I wish you well at finding a solution.

Let's stay in touch!  I am happy to give you the 411 around town.

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer Sorry I didn't get back with you I am in Michigan right now My dad just had the RNY on Jan 20, he is doing great with everything. Today was his first day out to his Dr. and we went to Meijers and traveled around alittle. He say he has NO regrets.  He is learning everyday. The surgeon you are going to was my first pick here for care but he said no. So I am going to just come back to Michigan again in 6 months for my 12 month visit.  Yes I would like to stay in contact with you I will be back home On Feb 7Th. My hubby has been taking care of himself. My dad can't drive for 2 weeks maybe 3 and my mom don't drive so I am here for them.  Good luck on your surgery. Loving my sleeve Sherri.

I second the idea, check up here in Topeka at Tallgrass. They are a great bunch of surgeons. I would think it would get tiring going back and forth to Michigan, not to mention cost prohibitive for the travel!

Hi, I have been searching for a doctor that will accept my insurance and it looks like my insurance won't cover the procedure at all.  However in all my surgery, even considering Mexico procedure, I did find a local place that will accept other patients from Mexico and out of state procedures.  I
noticed you said you were probably sticking with your doctor from MI but thought I would still offer.

Their website is: http://www.iabsobesitysurgery.com/

Good luck!

I know this is late but KU Medical Center has a bariatric program.  Hard to get in as a transfer patient but anyone is welcome to the support group which meets monthly.  Contact Sandra in Dr. Udobhi's office for information.

I had my surgery done in California but see Dr. Udobhi but I've been with him 5 years he no longer takes transfer patients.  You may want to contact Dr. Shadrach Smith at Truman Medical Center (KCMO) he is pretty open minded and also runs a bariatric program.

Welcome to the Midwest!
