No Bariatric Doctor will except me after out of state move.
Hi, Sherri.
I'm sorry you're having a hard time finding a bariatric surgeon for follow-up care. If you can't find anyone, and while it would mean a drive for you (he's a 2-hour drive from me), I highly recommend my surgeon, Dr. Greg Walton, at WeightWise, in Edmond, Oklahoma. He's awesome, and I know he will take transfer patients.
Blessings,
Mary

Hi, Sherri.
Glad to know that your labs are pretty good. Do be sure to get your Vit. D in. How often are you taking it? My maintenance D-3 is 5,000 IU 3 times weekly.
I love my sleeve! I'm 14 months out, and have lost 1/2 of the weight I need to lose. I lost before surgery, too. I'm more on the slow side, with weight loss, but it's okay. Maybe I won't need plastic surgery, because of it. ;)
Blessings,
Mary

Hi Mary
I started taking them on Monday and I thought I would take them everyday because I don't drink much Milk and Calcium not very good at that. I get busy and forget to take them. Wow I beat you feel great. You've lost alot. I have 71 more pounds to go before I hit my goal weight. I would like it by June because we are planning a trip. I really need to get moving and exercises more. I bought a Wii and the biggest loser. When it gets warmer I will walk more right now I can't take the cold. I am still alittle shy about working out around people so I try to do most of in my apt. I figure when I get back from Michigan I will start going to our fitness room here alone. My weight has slowed too. Good luck to you too. Sherri

I understand your frustration I lived in Overland park also and had my surgery done in Sedalia MO which is like 2 hrs away which wasn't bad to drive but then a year and a half ago I moved to Wichita KS which is 4 hrs away from Overland Park and 6 hrs. from Sedailia where I had my surgery so needless to say I haven't been back to my surgeon in over a year. I tried to find someone here in Wichita to take over and they just won't. Also finding a family doctor who understands the special needs of a gastric bypass patient it's important that they understand and know what test to run and what the results should be because what is normal for other people isn't normal for gastric bypass patients and they all don't understand that. I found a group here that would take me but wanted me to pay like $800 to take their classes and do their support group which is really bad. After a year and a half search a new support group started 2 months ago and I was able to go there and they accepted me so that was nice. Have you tried Olathe Medical Center I remember them having a support group but didn't require you to have had your surgery there? Also since KC MO is right there close to OVerland Park I know a few people who live in Olathe and Overland Park but tend to post more on the MO forum I would check them out there might be a support group right over the river in MO that would be close to you. Support groups is very important to keep us on track and accountable so don't give up keep looking you'll find one. Good luck on your journey.
Thank you I will check into this in Feb. Right now I am going to fly to Michigan and see my Bariatric Doctor on Tuesday the 19th. My dad is having the RNY on the 20th so I am going to stay with my parents for 3 weeks. Yes I do think it stinks how these Bariactirc Doctors say they are professionals and See that we are trying to make changes in our lives. I have good insurance so that can't be the problem. All they have to do now is make sure our blood work is right and we are going in the right path. I am just now learning the area around here. I don't like to drive to far by myself yet. I will get it though. My husbands transfer is for 3-6 years or more. I am just glad I have this OH as a support group right now, It would be nice to me new people who have been through the same things. We moved here and I don't know anyone. But now my 20 year old daughter is talking about moving here with my grand baby and looking for a job. Michigan is not doing so well. Well thanks again for the info. How far are you into your RNY?
You may need to do some checking. My surgeon in Michigan says he takes other because he is a Bariatirc of excellence and believe in his care. So I am going to stick with him and fly back for my Appointments. It is said now I just need to find a support group to take me in Kansas or I am on my own with the help of OH. Good luck to you. I am in Michigan right now My dad just had the RNY 8 days ago and is doing great so far. He says he is so glad he did this because he knows it saved his life. Good luck and don't be afraid everything works out. Loving my sleeve Sherri
Just wanted to say hey! I live east of Kansas City, but I grew up in Zeeland Michigan. It's near Holland. Anyway, My surgeon was here in KC and right after my surgery he moved to Pensylvania! I am a Lap Band patient and will be going to the weight loss clinic in Independence, MO. Hopefully, your family doctor can find out exactly what type of follow up care that you need.
I've always had issues with finding support groups around here. I just keep going back to my online groups:)
I would highly suggest contacting your insurance and having them be an advocate for you. They should be able to find follow up care for you that is good and consistant! I wish you luck!
