Hey folks! I'm trying to get more into the message board aspect of OH :)

My name is Heather. I actually live in Blue Springs, MO, but I've chosen to go through Shawnee Mission Med Ctr. for surgery. I went to my informational meeting last night, and now my head is spinning! I went in feeling pretty set on Lap B and, but now I'm actually throwing RNY back into the ring for more thought and contemplation.

For those of you who went to SMMC (or are going there now), what did you like about it? Dislike? Which surgeon did you use? The surgeon last night was Dr. Kowalski, who I really liked. And.... insanely enough... he's from Philly... the very clinic where one of my good friends is undergoing her RNY *right now*. Small world :) She said that his rep there is wonderful.

Sorry, I can't help you.  I went to Oklahoma to get my Gastic Sleeve done a year ago.  Just research as much as you can and you will make the right decision for you.

Hi Heather.  I am new to the message board and OH.  I am going to the informational seminar on Wednesday of this week.  I have heard good things about Dr. Hoehn, but I am sure that Dr. Kowalski is good too. 

I am just curious if you have made any decisions about which Dr. and which surgery that you are pursuing.   

I am eager for Wednesday to get here!  Perhaps, we can compare notes after my Wednesday session?!?

I am leaning more towards RNY, for a number of reasons.   I think that what it does is more of what I need... and I'm a little squicked out by the "foriegn object in my body" thing. But more than anything, I think RNY fits my needs better.

As for Dr. Hoehn vs. Dr. Kowalski.... I'm still figuring that out :) Right now my main battle has been getting all of my records sorted out and to the doc... success at last!
