I've not been on in quite awhile!  Just thought I'd take a min to update and post on my progress over the last year.  I had my lap band surgery OCT 24, 2007.  Today I'm down 90 lbs and have gone from a size 26 to a size 14-16.  I feel better than I have in years!  I have only had 2 fills and am currently at 1.5 cc in a 4 cc band.  Life is great, and I owe it all to the lap band surgery.

I had my sugery at Shawnee Mission Medical Center with Dr. Stanley Hoehn.  I started to go through Wichita's Solutions for Life, but due to insurance issues, etc ended up going elsewhere.  HOWEVER I am so glad I did.  If I had the opportunity to do it again, I would go through Dr. Hoehn's program again in a heartbeat!!!  Hands down a better experience than I had through Wichita's program!

Jeanee,

I too went through Solutions for life. I used them for my 3 month insurance requirement, but of course, insurance said I had to use an in network doc and hospital. Fortunately for me, Wesley has just re-started their bariatric program and added a Bariatric Surgeon. He is GREAT!!

I was not happy with SFL, but at least they got me thru my insurance requirements.

Wow!  You look great!  I am so glad to see someone do so well on the lap band.  I am currently going thru the Solutions program but am a bit discouraged.  I was told I could probably have my surgery in late Nov. or early Dec. and now the other night the instructor said they were already scheduling Dec. and it would likely be Jan or Feb for us.  We finish our classes in early Nov. and that seems like a long time to be in a holding pattern.  And I've met my deductible for 2008.  So I'm a bit discouraged.  But I think the whole program that Solutions does might be the best for me to be successful.  What kind of program did you do?

The classes and everything you go through with Solutions and have to pay EXTRA for, is nothing more than info provided by other programs that are all included in the price of the surgery.  Every surgeon, or should I say good surgeon....and medical facility will inform you of everything you need as far as education and how you should be eating, etc. etc. etc.  I don't think that there is anything wrong with Solutions for Life's program.  I just believe that they are a cash cow and taking advatage of the fact that there isn't any other options for wls in the wichita area.  They are charging outrageous fees for anything and everything they can.  Where I really got disgusted with them was when I found out that they knew Via Christi wasn't contracted with my insurance, but they didn't say a thing to me until I was completely done with their pre-op program and out alot of money.  They were hoping that I would go ahead and stay with them and use "out of network" coverage.
I know the waiting game is the hardest part of this entire process and most everyone has had to go through it.  I know I did.  However, I went through it with SFL, a different program thru LivLite, and then finally with Dr. Hoehns group.  However, I did have my surgery within a year of beginning the process.  Regardless of the wait....don't give up and don't get discouraged.  Take the time to start trying to adjust your habits and your ways of thinking.  The mental part of wls is the biggest challange to overcome.  It's not just the way we eat...it's the way we THINK about eating.  Best of luck!!!
Jeanne
