did all go well with your meeting Tues.  Remember this is a great site and people can answer many questions so don't be afraid to ask.

Thanks for asking! :)  Dr. Hu kinda cut me off on discussing WLS until I attend one of the Tallgrass information sessions at St. Francis, so I'll go Feb. 9th and then she said we'll go from there.  She is worried about if I should get WLS since I have rheumatoid arthritis.  But I have to... I'll figure out a way around the NSAIDS issue somehow.

Have you discussed it with your reg. dr.?   I didn't have any issues really ,except just being over 100lbs more than I should.  I knew though that I would start having problems as my feet and also my knee was beginning to hurt.  I think it would be down hill from there.  I am lucky no other health issues but i felt this was preventative but have been so amazed at the reversal of health problems with wt. loss.  I know some people that are over wt. that keep going to dr. for problems when actually wt loss would really take care of it.   Keep me posted.  I have a good friend that has fibrom.  It sure bothers her sometimes.  good luck.  I did find the seminar interesting.  Lots of people were there when I went.

Have you researched all WLS procedures? I believe there is an option (DS?) that you would still be able to take NSAIDS. I'll ask a DSer...

Yes!  With the DS, you CAN take NSAIDS, so all is not lost. ***Snaps to Lena for asking us on the DS board *** Come check it out and learn more.  Up on the forums link, choose Duodenal Switch, and you can see what it's about and come to our message board.  Also, check out duodenalswitch.com for some great clinical data and oodles more DSers that aren't here on OH.

Hi, I have Rheumatoid arthritis and had the BPD/DS done instead of the ryn mostly due to the med issue and worry over getting ulcers in a blind stomach.  Do you see a rheumatologist? There are many new meds out there some are even injections(methyltrexate, enbrel are the 2 , I useI also take celebrex) Even though with the DS I can take Nsaids , I still can get an ulcer from over usage. It was very responsible of your Dr. to give you the heads up.  Maybe at the information meeting you will get more feedback. try and met up with someone in person who has your same problems and has had the surgery you are looking for. Good Luck on your journey - may it not take too long

Hey mommacat We are damn near neighbors. I'm from Emporia. Yes...please check out the DS. I went up to Omaha, Nebraska to have mine. I have osteoarthritis and was able to get one of my knees replaced a few months ago but I still need ot take Celebrex every day for the other one. Being able to take NSAIDS was a major factor in choosing to have the DS.  If ya want. PM me and I will tell you how to get a hold of me and I can answer any questions you might have about the DS. Good Luck
