I haven't had a chance to read much as i am new here. Checking with all the different places and types of surgeries. I think lap band might be the best way for me as i only have 100 lbs to loose. I also am wonder the positive and neg. about overland park surgical center and the tall grass one in topeka. I know the livlite doesn't do lap band.
If anyone can give me specifics on which place they have found to be the best or why they didn't chose one i would appreciate it. also, has lap band been succesfull or should you go for the gastric bypass.
thanks everyone for your input and help.
Hello:
I havn't been banded yet my surgery is scheduled for October 15 at Tallgrass in Topeka with Dr. Hamilton. I really didn't research anywhere else as I live in Topeka and I didn't want to have to travel for my fills.. My experience with Tallgrass so far has been wonderful. Dr. Hamilton is a very warm and funny doctor and I have heard nothing but good things about the other doctors there. The staff that I have dealt with so far have been very nice and cheerful which makes it all easier.. Tallgrass takes care of everything that has to be submitted to insurance company I didn't have to do a whole lot except meet with a pysch doctor and nutritionist, and the sleep clinic. They hold a seminar once a month that is mandatory before they will even see you. Their website is www.topekaobesitysurgery.com or you can call Brenda Holliday, bariatric surgery coordinator at 785-228-4773 she is also a patient and so is Dr. Hamilton they both had RNY.
Good luck on your journey. They are also now a Center for Excellance

good luck with your surgery. Thanks for the info. I am leaning towards Tallgrass. I am closer to Junction City and the livlite center but they don't do lap band and I am now thinking that is more what I want.
Why did you decide LapBand?
Again, good luck. Will be anxious to know how you are doing.
Keep in touch.
Hi,
I had Lap-Band at Tallgrass in Topeka (8/27/07) and have been very happy. I had Dr. Dunshee and he is very compassionate and informative. He took alot of time with me on my initial consult and answered all of my questions. The nurses are awesome, especially Rachelle and Maxine. Haven't dealt with Brenda except on the phone and she was very accomodating. Today is my 1 month anniversary and I'm 25 pounds down. I get my first fill on 10/08 and I can't wait, as I'm not feeling as much restriction and more hungry for the craaaaaaaaaap that made me fat! I chose Lap-Band because of the reversibility factor. RNY made me nervous...too pemanent, plus I think I'll do better losing it gradually. Hope this rambling helps!! Kschick

did you do self pay? How long from Sat. session to surgery?
I am continuing to hear great things about tall grass. I was ready to go to Overland Park and then heard about
Tall grass. I am so happy I did. It is much closer. Wondering about the cost? I wish I had know as I would have gone to the Sept sat. meeting so I could have gotten started sooner.
good luck. HOpe you are feeling good and loosing. I am hoping to not have to miss much work.
