Wondering, When I called Tallgrass today they said the max.. charge is $14,000. that includes 2 yrs. of check ups and fills, It could be less. Is that what they told you and yours ended up being $12? I wanted to get it done before Christmas but they said I have to go to a seminar first, of which i can't go to the Oct. one. How long did it take you from start to surgery.
Thanks
Yes, that's what they told me initially too. When I seemed surprised by my actual cost, they said they always quote the maximum. Apparently, depending on your particular health issues, some people have to have some additional tests, etc. before banding. They also are including the cost of the psych eval in that figure even though you have to go through another avenue to get it and often times, insurance does cover that. By the time I count everything (including my psych eval) mine is going to end up costing about $12,500. I have been researching since April - it does take awhile. In addition to attending the required seminar, they also require that you read a book, obtain a psych evaluation with a recommendation for surgery, have a consultation, complete an on-line education program, and then a pre-op appointment before the surgery. It's a lot to get in!! I don't know if my time from beginning to surgery is typical, that's just what it took me to get everything done around my schedule. Crystal

so how long did it take you before you actually had surgery? I will have the psyc. eval done by the middle of Oct. I was hoping to get surgery after christmas so I could use some of my off time from school so I would n't have to use as many sick days.
How long did it take before you felt ok, as in go back to work? What pre op stuff did you have to do, like eat, etc.
thanks. How much wt. have you lost so far?
Cool- thanks. The AP band is becoming very popular from what I understand. Here's a link if you want to read about it.

I am virtually certain I'll go for the band. I have lost >100 pounds at least four times in my life and always gained it back (and more). I'm concerned that I won't be able to keep the weight off no matter what I do (including WLS), but from what I've read the band is an ever-present friend that helps keep you "honest." As someone who struggles more with portion control than sweets, milkshakes, etc., that appeals to me. It also costs less, is less risky and doesn't alter my internals as much. Having said all that, RNY looks like an outstanding option as well and I certainly couldn't fault anyone who goes that way.
I have been reading various boards the last few months and have followed with interest the threads that discuss whether or not people are happy with their band, would do it again, etc. Despite the different struggles folks have, I'd say at least 90% are glad they were banded, call it the best thing they have ever done, life-saving etc. That is impressive to me. Near as I can tell it can be rough for awhile, but eventually you get acclimated, get restriction, etc., and then you're off to the races. Oh yes-- I also have a friend who was banded at Tallgrass and is doing very well.
I just turned 50 and have come to the realization that WLS is probably my best and only shot at real change. I am pretty good at managing things in life and it bothers me that I simply cannot get this problem under control in my own strength. Oh well-- thank God WLS is an option!
Sounds like you are on the fence. Which way are you leaning?

Thank you for your information. I really really appreciate your taking the time. I love sweets but think that portion size ,like you is my major problem. I am really leaning towards lap band also. I was ready and trying to schedule lap bypass because i attended the livlite and they were just not to hot on lap band. I thought know way did i want that. Then I started studing more and more and am glad I did. It seems that the RYN is pretty major with lots of issues. I think for many people it is worth it. I also think that it is a quicker way to go and when there is lots to loose it might be the better way. I only have , only, i say like it isn't much, ha ha. 100 lbs. to loose. So I think i can afford to take it a little slower even though I would like it off "yesterday". I just don't think I want the issues that come with the RYN. so am so glad I have checked further. I had no idea of the other places doing this. I was only aware of Livlite, whom have been very nice and helpful. Boy am I glad I talked to my primary care dr. and have checked around.
Any other info would very much be appreciated.
