Hi. My name is Joivah. I am almost 29 years old and at the highest weight in my life. I currently weigh 355 lbs. I have two daughters, ages 9 and 11. Now, here is my story. Both of my parents were severly obese. My mom weighed approximately 360 lbs when she passed at the age of 36. My dad weighed approximately 450 lbs when he passed at the age of 41. They had so many health problems due to their weight. I am scared out of my mind. Here I am approaching my 30's and am severly obese. I love my daughters and my husband with all of my heart and would like to remain in their lives until I am very old. At this rate, I fear that I will also die young as did my parents. I have tried several diets and even took Redux when it came out. I have tried Weigh****chers which helps very little but only when I can afford to buy the things I need for this. I have tried many different diet pills and such. I also suffer from high blood pressure along with borderline cholestrol. I do not have insurance and unfortunately we can barely pay our bills. Paying out of pocket is not an option for me due to the lack of funds. I am trying to locate resources within my state that will help fund an operation for me. I do not want my children to go through what I had to with a loss of parent/parents. I have poor credit also, so applying for the medical credit cards have also been very unsuccessful. If anyone out there knows of programs to help people in low income situations, please send me a message. I WANT TO LIVE!!!

Hi Joivah ' I live near atchison. Ilive in MO. now but use to live in Ks.    I  hate to say this but unless you are on medicaide or have a state medical card  there is not much help out there.   Medicare will also pay for part of the surgery. The only help I can give you is write a letter to several DRs . Explain your problem ask for help.  Do you go to church ?  Talk to your minaster  see if the church is willin to help  by supporting a love offering or holding a fund raiser its hard to ask but some times we need the help of a higher power.  Good Luck  I will Pray for you Paul

Joivah,   I read your post and my heart goes out to you.  I did not have health insurance when I got banded and with my school loans, forget about the credit history.  What you may want to do is go on mylapbandsurgery.com.  My husband had a little retirement that he could take out...(4,000).  So at least I had a little payment down. Then what I would suggest is asking a family member, a sibling, aunt or uncle, sit down and explain to them your feelings....it runs in your family.  I know that if I could co sign for my sister, I would in a heartbeat because I want her to grow old with me too.  I qualified for another 3200.  I went to Alcuna, Mexico .  If you want my docs name I will gladly give it to you.  I flew into San Antonio texas where I met Barbara, sho travels back and forth over the border.  I went alone, my husband had to stay at home with the kids, and honestly i don't think we could afford another plane ticket.  So, yes I was lonely but even if he was there, there would have been nothing he could do for me anyways...besides, the surgery was not bad at all.....I'd rather have 5 lapband surgeries before going in for my wisdom teeth again!!!!! Keep your chin up, there has to be something you can do, even if it means you have to save up a year to do it.  Please write me back....hit my profile and read if you wish and then send me a message.  We are all here for each other, I love this board and I will give you all the info you need. Liz

Oh yeah and BTW, my monthly payments are 164.00 a month and never had a problem with them.  Surgery was 7200.00 not including airfare.  I get fills from a doc here and he is great with me.  I like him alot.  Fills are 150.00.  I go maybe every month and a half or so.  I am a slow loser, I have lost 21 lbs since May, but honestly, I would still be the weight i was if I wasn't banded.
