Where is the cheapest and most reliable place in the KC area for self-pay lapband hopefuls?

I had my surgery at the Tallgrass in Topeka on May 21 this year.  I was self-pay...close to 13,000.  That includes fills for 2 years.  My surgeon was Dr Bernstein.  Love the facility.  Was well taken care of.  Since I live over an hour and half away I needed to stay overnight but they footed the bill for the hotel room.  Good luck on your journey.   Mary

I'm doing great with my weight loss....today my loss with my preop is 80 lbs.  I havent had a fill yet, as I havent had the need for one.  My doctor says this is a rarity....but I love it.  I had surgery Monday morning...went back to work for an hour on tuesday....Wednesday an hour...then Thursday and Friday 1/2 days...I work at a desk...but still was tired...needed that nap.  I'm sure if I really really tried I probably could of went fulltime Thursdya and Friday....but I had the vacation time to take so used it.  GOod luck on your journey.  Mary

Wow,  you have done well.  I would imagine that you are eating very sensably and exercising.  I just can't wait to get it done.  I teach and have some rather tough kids so maybe need to figure on taking some days off unless I can get done over our Christmas vacation.  I have gained about 10 lbs in the last month and half.  I would like to start gettging some off now as that will make it easier , too I think.  Did they have you loose before surgery?   I can see me loosing easily right now, for the first time in my life and then not make the BMI.  Ha ha.  I can loose 20 but then i seem to stop and gain it plus more back.  I get so tired of that.  I coach so am really active right now which helps.   Did they give you any suggestions on pre op diet, etc.   I have had my psyc eval and plan to go to the meeting in Oct. to get the ball rolling.  I wonder how long it will take from there to get surgery scheduled.  I don't think,  at least I am not aware of any major health issues.   Thanks for getting back to me. And keep up the good work.

I finally got insurance to pay for mine but before I was looking at a Dr. in Colorado. He was $12,000 and the ticket to Colorado was $200. I think so much of the success of the lap band is how much support you get so knowing what I know now, I may try to go with someone local. After my surgery, I've met more than one weight loss surgery patient who's gained it all back or only lost 20-30 pounds. That's like a nightmare to me after all this work and surgery. I go to my supoprt groups and stick with it, I personally think that really helps.

I had my lapband surgery done at the weight loss surgery center at 135th and 69.  My doctor was Dr. Nigro.  I had my surgery on 11/1/06 and have lost 81.60 pounds.  I am 9.4 pounds away from my goal.  I was self pay and it costs me $17,000.00.  I highly recommend this surgery center.

I feel your pain!! I have been looking into it, but I having a really hard time getting a price range. I know of several places where the "cash price: is between 15 and 18 thousand. But what I really need to know is that the cost is that they send to the insurance company. I ve received lots of different answers from 30 to 76 thousand dollars. (my insurance only covers 50%... if you see my issue?  .... It cant possible be that much when the insurance is covering it can it? I am looking for an itemized cost breakdown for the entire procedure,   Cause if my out of pocket is going to 15 grand anyways, I might as well try and find some more money and just do the cash pay!!

As I was looking around I felt Tallgrass to be the least expensive for self pay.  Especially with the fills included.   Dealing with insurance is a night mare.  Kansas seems to be really behind,  or at least Blue Cross in supporting it.
