Hello all.....I just recently completed all of the hoops for insurance to have my gastric bypass done. This has been a soul searching journey of 2 years and countless hours reading message boards.  I thought I was all set to go, but have recently heard from a former employee that the WLS patients who had it done there, had many complications.  Is there anyone in here that had their surgery done there? Anyone with information, negative and positive would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! I had my RNY done at Geay Community HOspital in Janury 2007 by Dr. Bollman and Dr. Narciso and had a great experience. Dr. Bollman had completed over 650 RNY's at that time. He has only had one leak to speak of and that was a nurse at the hospital. She now speaks at the support meetings to advise others about what to look for.  It is a gold star program and was the first in Kansas to do gastric bypass. My surgery was an open RNY but they now have a new surgeon on board that does laproscopic gastric bypass. I would recommend them highly having gone through it. They are caring and professional and I would do it over again in a heartbeat. My hospital stay and care was A+ from nursing staff, nutritionist, surgeons and liv lite staff. Good luck and don't let one negative person shy you away.  ks_beachbum

I for one, didn't want open surgery....and I wasn't comfortable with the experience level of LivLite's new surgeon.  Therefore I opted to go to Shawnee Mission and Dr. Hoehn because of the experience and being a center for excellence.  Again, this was just a personal decision on my part.  Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

I had my RNY there 5 yrs ago and up until I moved last year they had a steller complication rate...I can't believe that has changed. Dr Bollman and his staff are WONDERFUL!!! Very careing and knowledgeable. If you have ???'s the best thing for you to do is attend a support group meeting and talk to the actual patients and Docs. the Doctors and nurses are at EVERY meeting. Talk to Pam about the complication rate and fing out the truth...they were always very proud of their standings. Hope this helps...you have to find someplace that you feel very comfortable with..this is the rest of your life and you should be dealing with them as well. BIG HUGS!!! Deanna K

I had my gastric bypass in Dec. 2005.  I was Dr. Narciso first bypass, but I was not worried because Dr. Bollman was also there.  I had a wonderful experience with both the doctors and the nurses.  My friend who works at the hospital is the one who had the leak.  I had some minor complications that they took care of.  Both Dr. Bollmand and Dr. Narsico are wonderful people.  I have not heard of any complications from other patients.  The ladies at LiveLite will be there with you through the whole process.  Feel free to email me anytime. Take Care

Chimming in late here.... I had my surgery with Dr. Bollman on 7/13/06....EXCELLENT SURGEON!  My whole process was textbook! Most people are against open RNY because they say recovery is worse/longer. I will tell you this, I was up and walking and almost laping the nurses by my second day there. But everyone is different and will likely have a different experience no matter where you go for your surgery, provided you pick a reputable and skilled surgeon. A good, skilled surgeon is key in this process, imho. What kind of complications are you speaking of?
