I know there are a lot of us from the Sunflower State who has had, will have, or is considering WLS. I, for one, am scheduled for surgery on August 6th at the University of Missouri, Columbia. Not that I wanted to go clear to Columbia, but that was the closest my insurance would cover as a center of excellence. I understand one of the hospitals in Topeka now has that distinction, but I am not anxious to change facilities now.  It is great when one of your drs is in your corner cheering you on, especially since he has had the lap band last fall and has lost well over 100#! My diabetes dr is very encouraging, and is always wanting info on my progress. My PCP is very supportive, and wants updates as well. I have several friends through my church who has my surgery date down as a day of prayer for me, and boy, do I appreciate that! So, what all does everyone do for excitement? And, anyone close to Hutchinson? Let's see...I love to garden and do yard work, but cannot do it currently, due to a bad foot.  My dr says no more garden or yard work, as my foot is breaking down. Not good news, but I trust God to heal me completely of this affliction! He has too many plans for me to just sit around on my buns all day, especially when I am used to being up and at 'em!  Other interests for me include photography and animals. I volunteer at the animal shelter here, and we have four dogs (my husband calls them speed bumps with furr!) and four spoiled barn cats. I have learned of a support group in Wichita and hope to be getting information on that soon! I am looking forward to it!  I just saw there are not many posts on here right now, and hoped to get something started! Is anyone watching the Big Medicine marathon? I am dvr'ing several shows, so I can watch them later!  Take care everyone, and enjoy your evening!  Hugs, LaNeta

Hey there LaNeta,  I have tried to get this board going.  Thanks so much for trying, maybe we will have some luck this time.  I think you will be really happy with the result surgery has on your diabetes.  My recent A1C was 5.5 with no medications.  I could not believe it.  That will improve everything in your life.  I wish we could get a support group going here in Southeast Kansas.  If it keeps raining here we are all going to have to get together to build an ark.  Good grief I am sick of rain.  Rain, heat and humidity.  My plants on the sun porch love it, they must feel as if they are in the Amazon rain forest.  I love plants and gardening too but can't do much gardening due to my health and weight issues.  Maybe that will improve as well.  My husband is freaking out because he is getting concerned about where we will put all my plants this fall.  I think I will just keep him guessing.  I like animals ok but not crazy for them.  I like them best when they belong to someone else.  My best friend who lives in Nashville is coming tomorrow for a week long visit so I am excited about that and our favorite thing to do is SHOP, a girl's got to love that.  Keep in touch and it was great to meet another Kansas Gal.  OK, everyone else who comes here add some information about yourself and add us to your friends list and lets keep in touch and get this board going!  Thanks...Kat

Good morning! Yup, I was into gardening and yard work big time this year, until my podiatrist said my bad foot is breaking down more and my 'good' foot is starting to. He has talked about putting me in a wheelchair, which would KILL me, so I have backed off. I am believing God is healing my feet, legs, hands and all other problems in my body. I know He has been so good to me throughout my life!  I am one of those 'weird' women. I hate to shop, unless it is for plants or doggie supplies! Maybe I will change my mind when I can go into a regular store and buy off the rack! I am looking forward to the day I can walk back into my former office and show off the new me! Guess I need to start with having the surgery first, right?  But, I am ready for it, and ready to begin my new life!  Hope you have a great time with your friend from Nashville! I am going to Topeka in a few months and spend time with a good friend who had RNY last year and lost 150#. She said her favorite clothing shop is Goodwill. She said you lose the weight so fast, no need to buy new clothes in the transition. Then, she said, she found so much great stuff there, she shops there a lot!  Well, I am heading for Wichita to the dr. He is my diabetes dr, and he is SO supportive. He said when he was practicing somewhere else, there was a 500# nurse who got down to 175 I believe. He said she looks fantastic!  Have a great day, and try not to drown. I am tired of this weather too, but for the first time since we have lived here (1991) the dogs have GRASS in their yard, rather than just weeds!  Hugs, LaNeta                                                                          Smiley Fireworks

OK, I wil get ahold of them, but you are probably right they require me to be in their program, which I cannot do right now. I was in Wichita and Derby yesterday to see diabetes doc. He is SO supportive, and I really appreciate it.  I thought I saw a meeting schedule for gastric bypass people in Wichita in the Eagle several weeks ago, so will keep trying to find that one in the meantime. And, if you get to Hutch, please give me a call. I have a pretty busy schedule sometimes, but maybe we can get together for coffee!  Take care, and have a great 4th. I think I gave you my number 620 728-0040. Would love to meet you! See ya!  LaNeta                                                     Smiley Fireworks Fireworks

Hi Kansans, Well, I'm from SE Kansas and am also sick of the rain. The sun has been shining today so that's a plus. I don't garden because I have a brown thumb. I like to help my family can though, when I have a chance.  I do love photography and I actually worked for a local paper for a while taking photos. It wasn't near as fun when you do it for a job.  I have 1 dog and that is about it. My little boy has a goat and a lamb for our county fair and man does he love them. His father has had him showing livestock since he was 16 months old. I had to put my foot down and say that our daughter couldn't show this year. She's only 10 1/2 months old. I work as the director for our county's chamber of commerce and I find myself traveling all over the grand state of Kansas.  I would love to see this board more active. Right now I've been sticking to the lap band board, but I would love to keep in touch with people that live closer. I've been DVRing Big Medicine so I've watched all the new episodes. Well, I hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th. If anyone is from one of the towns that has recieved some of the severe flooding just know that my thoughts and prayers are going out to you.

Hi there! Well, God gave us all different talents. I used to watch my mom and aunt can, but never got into it. We have an Amish community just 6 miles from us, and you talk about canners! Whew! They can what they grow, and boy, are they good at it!  I dvr'ed the newest Big Medicine, and am anxious to see it. I understand about the flooding. We have had a lot of that around here this year, and it has destroyed much of the wheat crop. The wheat behind our house is pathetic, and will probably be plowed under. A friend of ours has 3000+ acres that he and his family farm, and they are only making 11 bushels to the acre. That is BAD! Have you been to Hutchinson since our new underground salt museum opened? It is the only one in the western hemisphere, and just opened a few months ago. We only live a half mile from there, but we haven't been there yet. I want to wait until I get the weight off, so hopefully, I won't be so claustrophobic!  We also have the Kansas Cosmosphere, but in the 18 yrs of living here, we haven't been there yet! :-)  Well, I have two people to e-mail pix of my wedding dress. They are interested in the dress, which is about size 28-30. It has been put away for 22 years, and I will be thrilled if someone can use it. Heaven knows I won't use it again - ha!  Hope you all have a great 4th - take care!  Hugs, LaNeta                                                             Fireworks

I haven't been to the new salt museum. I wanted to go but just today found out that no one under the age of 4 is allowed to go underground (that's what their brochure says). Since I have a 3 y/o and a 10 month old, I don't think I'll be going for awhile. It looks neat though. Good luck getting rid of the wedding dress and have a safe holiday.

Good morning! As for the salt museum, they are not done with it yet, though they are done enough to have tours. There are tour buses there all the time. I imagine it will be even better when we decide to go down there.  I have now had three requests for the dress, so I have sent pix to the first two. One wants it for her daughter, the other for her mother!  So, whichever is fine with me. I took it out yesterday for the first time since our wedding and took pix. I forgot how gorgeous it is! Well, have to check out the board and then get ready for a cookout. I am not looking forward to sitting out in the heat and humidity, but it is my husband's boss who put it together, so.....what do you do? Hope you have a great 4th too!  Hugs, LaNeta

I hope you enjoyed your 4th. It actually ended up raining here and cooled off the evening. Everyone had to pile in my house to eat, but it was really nice and cooled off when we went out to shoot off fireworks. Aww, Kansas weather, if you don't like it, wait 10 minutes and it will change for ya!
