We Need a Local Support Group!!!

Hi Everyone I had my gastric bypass on Oct 2,2006 in Junction City, KS. I live in Pittsburg, KS. Let me tell you, it was tough enough to make the 4 1/2 hour trip (one way) for all the appointments. Now that I am almost 9 months out, I'm really beginning to feel the need for support!! And I know that it's next to impossible for me to make the trips to Junction City with the price of gas, my busy schedule, etc. etc..... I am sure that if some of us in the area join forces,we can come up with a way to start a local  support group!! I had began this process a while back, unfortunately,  my busy schedule made it not happen. I am determined, one way or the other, that WE NEED A LOCAL SUPPORT GROUP!!!!! If there is anyone out there that wants to help me out and lets start calling around, and get something going in the Pittsburg area.  Sure it  would be great to have doctor's involved, but lets face it,we don't really have any local dcotor's that do the WLS....I really think even if those of us whom have had the surgery, and those whom are thinking of having the surgery, could get together to share our good times and our bad times, we  would all feel so much better. Let's face it, sticking together, and being there for each other would be better than nothing at all.....which is what we have now.  Right? I know for myself, I'm struggling with some things having to do with my surgery, and  maybe just having someone else to talk to about them would ease the struggles.  If you want to help me out, message me, or reply to this post, let's all work together, and get our 1st support group meeting under our belt.  Hugs to You All Theresa

Theresa,  I live in Chetopa. Haven't had my surgery yet, but I think it's a great idea to get together and talk. I know I could use the support. Kind of like a therapeutic girls (and boys) night..

HI, I've been working  on trying to get this support group a "happening thing". I know that just having the support from others will make a difference, not just for myself, but for others as well. Not having had your surgery yet, it would give you a great opportunity to visit with those who have had their surgery,  and for those who have had their surgery, it will  give us an opportunity to share our stories, and personal experiences. I will keep an update on this forum as I make progress. Wish me luck!!  I'm looking forward to meeting you in the (hopefully) very near future!!!! Hugs Theresa

Theresa, I would love to be part of a support group.  Let me know if there is anything I can do.  My aunt who had surgery a few years ago would like to come also, I think. Keep me informed if anything comes of this. Thanks, Kat

Hi Kat, I have been busy making calls, and trying to get our new support group from just a plan,  to a reality!!! With my busy schedule it does  make it difficult, mark  my word....THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN!!!!  We all need the support!!!!! I'm sure there are more of us around this area that has had, or is looking into WLS, and just the getting  together would help all of us. One thing we will want to start thinking of is name for our group. If you come up with any ideas, I'm always open to them. I'll keep you updated on the progress. I promise you, one  way or the other, we all will be able toenjoy a support group in the (hopefully) very near future!!! Have a great day Hugs Theresa
