I have not heard of that happening to anyone. I have heard that some people have had to work on some issues before they got complete approval.

what kind of questions do they ask you? i mean how bad does it have to be to get an approval psychiatrically (is that a word?)?

Trish, Mainly they are checking to see if you can handle the emotional changes that are going to occurr. Also, they what to make sure that you don't have other problems that may effect the out come of the WLS. This is not a problem with most people. I suggest that you relax and listen to what the ask and answer it honestly. Don't try give them the answer they are looking for, just the one that is right for you. You will do fine.

If it is like where I went, you have an appointment and talk about yourself at first, then you do a computer test and then you go in for the final appointment. I found the test to have pinned me to the T. It was interesting to see what I needed to work on. I know I have some issues but nothing to keep me from the surgery. She even stated that I could call back and set up an appointment if and when I felt I was ready. Most people pass the test... I have heard of a couple of people that have not. It is not really a pass or fail like Mike was saying. If you don't get approved the first time it is just due to issues that need addressed prior to any surgery. I have heard of one person who did not get approved and that was due to a mental disorder this person had and that is why she did not get approved. It has to be something really BIG for it not to go.

I only talked with my psych visit, no computer. Change doctors.

Yes that is a word. There is no set of standard questions outlined in the DMS IV to ask a patient considering weight loss surgery. The questions and the process as a whole are probably as numerous as there are doctors. They look for a lot of things that may be aggravated by or cause new problems after weight loss surgery. For example someone who is depressed should look at that first. You are embarking on a challenge and it is never good to start with a handicap. There are others as well. Like do you use food to cope? If you eat when stressed or depressed or what ever then it wouldn't be a good thing to remove that coping mechanism without first replacing it with something else. Just answer any questions honestly. Whole thing really isn't that complicated typically. Worst case scenario from my point of view would be not right now rather than never.

I have gone to the informational meeting required at Tallgrass in Topeka.  What Doc's do you know here that will do my phsyc evaluation?  How much does it cost?   Thank,  Cindy
