I hear both are great, is there anyone willing to offer up info on them? I was asked which one I wanted to do my RNY and I don't know for sure..........

Hey Crys They are both great doc's from what I have heard. I have a lot of friends/family that work @ Via-Christi (I work there too). I know someone who had been to Dr. Dort personally and someone who worked with him, so I picked him. I had my appt with him last week and he was awesome. I have never met Dr. Lancaster, so I really don't know about him. I know both surgeons will do your surgery together, you just pick one or the other to do your consults with. Donna

I see you saw the doctor the other day. Did you set a date? I was wondering if everyone sees Dr. Dort, if I could get a sooner date seeing Dr. Lancaster. Just a thought.........

I did get a date, June 19th. I am not sure if you could get into Dr. Lancaster sooner or not. I know they are in the same office together. Sorry I'm not more help. I know how hard the waiting is.. Once you make the decision to do it you just want to get started....

Crys, I have never met Dr. Landcaster. I had Porter do mine and Dort assisted. I think that both Landcaster and Dort are very good, and you will get both either way. I know that Landcaster has his patients stay on liquid longer post-op. But that is not a bad thing. The way I see it you can't lose with either one. Best wishes,

So they both are in the room during the surgery anyway? That seems odd then that you go to one but they both do the surgery. Like I said I wondered if making my appointment with Lancaster might make my surgery date sooner. Just because it seems everyone sees Dort, but if they are both in the surgery together, I do not see where there would be any time difference. Am I making any since??? What you said about being on liquids longer, I agree with you Mike, I would prefer that. Thanks for the insight! in refrence to your comment about not losing with either one....I hope I do!!!! HA-HA!!!

Yes, they are both in the room at the same time but you have to have a primary doc. Dr Dort is who I prefer over Lancaster. Nothing wrong with Lancaster but Dort is very caring man. I think the world of him. They both have to be in the operating room in order to do the surgery. It is all done laproscopic and it takes both of them. I have heard things that are a little different about Lancaster then Dort. But I know Dort alot better and I know he has WONDERFUL bedside manner and I just think he is the best. So you got approval? I have my surgery on June 18th.

I have not been officially approved, but have been told as soon as I meet the criteria, which I will soon, they will approve the first week of June. So I have not even seen the surgeon yet, but was wondering if I could get in sooner and have surgery sooner if I went with Lancaster. Seems like everyone sees Dort and was thinking if I went with him ( Dort) it may take longer to get in and set the date! Congratulations on your date!

Even if you get in to see Lancaster prior to seeing Dort, if Dort is not available when Lancaster is then you still won't have surgery. Both Lancaster and Dort HAVE to be available for the surgery date. If one is not available then you will not be scheduled for a date. Donna who is on this site had her appt with Dort the same day I had mine. Donna was scheduled the next day after my day. I will have surgery on june 18 and then she will have surgery on june 19. We had our appt dates with dort on may 4. I hope that helps you out with understanding the process. Feel Free to ask any questions.

Well, I guess then it will be Dort. Kate had already asked me who I wanted to see. I told her Dort. So I guess I will just keep it that way. Do you mind if I come up and see you when you are in the hospital? One of the nurses, was in my pre-op class. She had her surgery a couple of months ago, I think. Are either one of you being put on the 2 week liquid fast?
