We have a state BCBS plan... any hope of getting around a denial?

In a word. NO. Not what you wanted to hear I know but people have gotten lawyers trying to get them to pay and lost. There's an online petition posted here on the KS board on page 2 I think. I signed it myself. I have BCBS of Kansas and they wouldn't pay either but Medicare did.

Thanks for the reply. We were considering the attorney route next, but won't spend the money if it's been tried. Any chance of getting the KS insurance commissioner involved? I know other states have done that with success.

I have tried contacting the insurance commissioner and she doesn't return emails or calls. I think she is partly responsible for drafting the policies that exclude WLS in most insurances in the state. If your going to sue, sue the state to make the policy not BCBS, because it's the state that has the exclusion written in not BCBS. I am in the same boat and very angry! Cruz

check with Dr. Lopez! He takes bc/bs Dr. Lopez is my filln doctor, out of Heartland spine in Leawood. On my insurance, Great West, I was first denied. My primary physician wrote a letter in support, so did my husband (telling how many thousand of dollars and time spent on diets) and I wrote a letter, too. Second time, the dispute for reconsideration, only took days. Good Luck!

I have BCBS and was aproved, HOWEVER, my employer does NOT have an exclusion! It is YOUR EMPLOYERS plan that drives approval, not just BCBS.... BCBS will have specifications to meet (BMI, Co-Morbitities) and the like, but if your employer has opted IN for the coverage, they will approve. I hope this helps.
